What is your favorite recipe for tea cocktails?
I love drinking tea just in its purity, but I also love to cook and make other things with tea! This summer I have been trying out some cool ways to add flare to my tea drinking experience….
So, I was thinking of making some cocktails out of tea… do people have any favorites? or recipes?
I like adding Peach Schnapps and/or mango syrup to my instant iced tea, I’m sure it would work great with loose-leaf steeped tea as well.
Rarely drink but this looks interesting -

I agree that mojiTEAs are amazing. I make them exactly as the recipe says except instead of using lemon lime soda I steep 4.5g of tea of choice (white teas would be wonderful for summer mojitos since they help lower body temp) in as little water as possible then add carbonated water to equal the number of glasses you want to serve. Adagio’s white cucumber makes a great mojito. Or if you didn’t want to fuss w/ steeping and decanting you could add matcha. YUMMY!
hey guys,
thanks so much for all these ideas! i am definitely going to try them out for my picnic this weekend and i will keep everyone posted on how it goes!

Really you can make a mixer out of any tea. There several different ways to achieve this.
1. Brew up a really strong concentrate. Instead of the tea industry standard 1t per 8 oz. use 1T per 8 oz. Then add sugar to taste. Essentially you are creating a flavored simple syrup. I’ve done this with green tea, white tea, rooibos etc. Then to serve just do 2:1 tea to alcohol in a shaker then serve!
2. This one is a little more fun and looks amazing. You use the basic principles as the first recipe, 1T per 8oz. But instead of brewing up the tea per the instructions you are going to infuse your alcohol with tea flavor. This way does take a little planning ahead seeing as though you need to let it sit for about 12 hours. But for this put your alcohol and tea together in a jar, I really recommend using a plain tea and then adding your fresh mint, or slice up some orange or my favorite a cucumber green tea infused vodka. AMAZING!
I hope the weather cooperates for your picnic!
Off topic, but industry standard is 2.25g/6oz, is it not? 1tsp/8oz is a common ratio, but I don’t think it’s industry standard.
Replace “industry standard” for “common practice” then? Or if we are going to go with “true american” standards wouldn’t that just be a crap load of tea put into a bag steeped at whatever temperature the water spigot feels like spitting out at the local café… really do we need to nit pick?
Fortunei, it’s not nit picking- it was a legit question. No need to jump down my throat just like you don’t think there’s a need to nit pick. Your sarcasm proves there are clearly differences between the 2.
Cofftea, I apologize. I feel that a 1t to 8oz. ratio is much more realistic than your common household breaking out a scale to weight out their tea, you are right it isn’t the “industry standard” but if we hope to make tea more accessible and friendly to the common american maybe we should make it “industry standard”. Your thoughts?
I think it depends on what type of tea you’re drinking. The 1tsp make work great for black tea- but it does not for whites as they are so light and voluminous (probably not spelled right lol). White teas are actually what pushed me to get my scale- 2.25g of white tea is actually over 1TB. So many people don’t like tea and I think that this is in part to it being made incorrectly and that’s why I’m a firm believer in proper steeping parameters… but then again this most applies to Japanese greens and pu erh which have different standards than the 1tsp/8oz or 2.25g/6oz lol. To each his own. Use whatever method you’d like, I was more confused people didn’t confused the terminology you used.
Have no milk or creamer? Use Baileys in chai. Baileys is also amazing in Irish Breakfast. Chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla, and almond liquors are amazing in chais as well.
Peppermint Schnaps in unsweetened iced tea.
Lemoncello in green or white iced tea instead of lemonade.
Russian vodka in Russian Breakfast tea.
Vodka in a Cranberry flavored iced tea for a Cosmo.
A couple matcha shot ideas: .75oz each OJ (or orange liquor) and vodka plus 1tsp matcha for a screw driver matcha shot, .75oz each OJ (or orange liquor) and milk (or Baileys) and 1tsp matcha for a dreamsicle matcha shot.
@cofftea: baileys in chai! omygosh!
All of these are so great… i figure if the weather is horrid, then i will move the tea party/picnic indoors… but I am going to try these out with the new samples/shipments of tea planning to arrive this friday (aka tomorrow!)
Ming Tsai serves a Jasmine Iced Tea-ni at the Blue Ginger. Here’s their description:
Our Dragon Pearl Jasmine teainfused
TYKU Soju shaken with fresh squeezed lemon
juice and agave nectar. Fragrant & refreshing
all of these sound so delicious! i am definitely going to try out the baileys in my chai and also the peach schnapps to the iced tea at least for this weekend.
will try something new out next weekend and keep you all posted!
thank you so much for your input
