Tea Ware
Does anyone have a good pattern for a tea purse/wallet? I need something to keep my pocket scale, thermometer, and filled tea bags in when I go out or on vacation.
My company, Thistledown Cozies, makes a tea wallet for carrying filled tea bags. It might work for you depending on the shape and size of the tea equipage you also want to carry. Check your local tea shop for availability if this design appeals to you. http://www.thistledownshop.com/teawallets.html
I am curious as to what exactly you do bring with you for tea making.
This is cool for a tea drinker on the go.

Has anyone tried one of these? It’s a traveling coffee press.

Chuckles Reading this I feel so simple and plain. I almost always brew my loose-leaf tea in a coffee mug with a metal strainer I borrow from my small, ordinary-looking red teapot. So everything is pretty utilinary.
I did sort of semi-inherit some nice-looking teacups but I’ve never used them. They just seem like they’re too pretty and delicate for everyday use. Not to mention I’m horribly clumsy and they’d probably end up chipped or broken in short order.
That’s the way I started. A lot of people enjoy watching the tea steep. Others don’t. The point is you like tea and you drink it. :) I think tea drinkers go thru “seasons” just like other stages of life. They get really into something, then after a while find something else.
Heh, I mostly brew my loose-leaf tea in a ball or spoon. I have a Nyannyannyanko tea press that I used a lot more when I had a desk job…brewed about 2 cups of tea quite nicely, which just about fit the thermal travel mug I kept on my desk for tea. I’ve got a lovely porcelain elephant teapot that I use on occasion, but generally I go for the “set it and forget it” approach. I pour my water over my tea ball, set my timer, and come back when it beeps.
It depends on the tea, though. Performance-type teas (such as jasmine pearls, etc) that are really cool to watch demand special attention, and I won’t drink those unless I’ve got the proper time to appreciate them. Workhorse teas are brilliant, and primarily what I drink, but they require little supervision. :)
I’ve been drinking tea most of my life, but it’s always been more utilitarian and less ceremonial. I’m interested in seeing that side of it now, though I’ll be very careful about what accoutrements I choose. I’m trying to be much more mindful of not cluttering up the house with a lot of things I’m interested in for a short time, but will eventually abandon. XD If I can see myself continually using it (or else getting rid of it in a timely way, if I change my mind), I’ll probably sell myself on it. :)
I am complete and total tea ware addict. I tend to lean to the Asian side of things but the general rule is that if I like it I buy it :). Let’s see…three yixings, four gaiwans and matching cups, one kyusu, one testubin, one ceramic pot, one porcelain pot, one glass pot, three random thrift store cups, two hagi cups, a yunomi I bought on etsy, bodum style tasting cups, a teacarina, an aroma cup set, one matcha bowl…
“the general rule is that if I like it I buy it :)”
That’s my life motto. Though, not so much now that I’m going back to school and am no longer working.
Your teaware list is rather impressive. I bow down to your superiorness.
In cool weather, I rely heavily on a nice little metal tea warming stand that accommodates a tea candle and keeps half a pot pleasantly warm for about an hour.
This looks like something Frank Lloyd Wright would use!:)
If I had the money . . .
wow. ever hear the creator of this? he is brilliant.

Too bad it only works w/ their mug. I LOVE the infuser, but the mug is ugly.
