It would work as a tea bath. You may leave a yellow stain in your bathtub though – which you would be able to scrub off. I mostly hear of green and white teas being used for a tea bath, mostly because of the antioxidant benefit to the skin.
If you google uses for tea bags you will get tonnes of ideas. Cleaning windows, polishing wood furniture and floors, etc. Use it for cooking/baking or for making iced tea.
Well, I would assume, since I know it is possible to absorb caffein through the pores of your skin, that you might get a little bit hyper if you use to much tea. Don’t quote me on this, but since black tea, is basically just green tea that has been oxidized and fermented more, it would seem that you could get the same nourishing effects in a black tea bath that you might get in a green tea bath, just with more caffein. Give it a try, see if it relaxes you or makes you feel better, and then tell me if it works!
Zach, I have been trying to catch you on a thread. When I click on your name to get to your info page, I get the “nothing to see here” error page. that is usually because there is something wrong with your user name when you registered, such as using a period in your name. Just wanted to let you know.
Oh, thanks for letting me know, I’ll try to fix that!
Lala, would you mind clicking on my username to see if it works?
I have used black tea as a facial toner and I have used green and herbal teas to rinse my hair. Never tried the tea bath but it sounds great.
Wet tea bags make great and soothing eye masks!
Black tea is supposed to be good for sunburns, I wonder if it works for other skin irritations…looks like I will have something fun to research this evening :)
I read that too. And during the summer I had an unfortunate opportunity to try it first hand with a bad sunburn I got on my leg. I followed the instructions I had found and to be honest, I didn’t really notice any sort of difference using tea than I if I had used just plain water. Aside from worrying that the tea is going to drip all over and stain the carpet. Lol.
Is there a way to do this with Loose Leaf tea? hmmmm….
My mom has made herbal versions of this before using muslin bags (or just cheeseclothe…I once did it with an old sock) I am sure the same would work for tea.
i have a ton of green tea i could use. hmmm, maybe a big towel tied into a makeshift bag?
I’m glad that this topic was opened up. Bathing in tea may be a good way to downsize a collection with too much “meh” in it…
But will black tea stain my skin? Does anyone know?
stain? I don’t know. scrubbing it off would work though if it does, with just your normal soap, I imagine. If you try it, report back.
I know people that have used strongly, strongly brewed black tea as self tanner. To me it made their skin darker while sprayed on, but then just washed off. Unsure if it will stain your skin though if you are soaking in it.
I think if you used a lot of tea in your bath and did it on a daily basis, maybe. But if you use few bags and do it like once a month, it should be fine. Just a guess, though :)
Thanks for the idea. I have a bunch of tea with hibiscus (which I don’t really like). It smells great and I think it would be lovely. I looked on-line and found several places mentioning hibiscus tea and products. I think I’ll try it tonight:D
How many tea bags to a regular sized bathtub?
I read like 4-5 online some places, but honestly if I end up doing this I’ll use around 9-10
Be sure to report back here if you do. I am intensely curious.
I think I am going to take one tomorrow, so I’ll report back with results :D
Its safe to say about six I think… I don’t know though
I had a green tea bath once used 3 teabags and afterwards I noticed the green tea bath gives very soft skin.
