Cleaning Teapot pouring spouts
Odd question, but I hop someone can help me with this. I’ve been using my new teapot for a few weeks now and i’ve noticed that the interior of the pouring spout is very dark, stained with the tea I’ve been brewing these last few weeks.
As this is the first tea pot I’ve had with a spout that open upwards (the others have opened forward or downward, so I was never able to see into the spout) this is the first time I’ve realized that I’m not able to clean the inside of the spout.
Any suggestions?

You should be able to find brushes either on Ebay or Amazon, just search for spout brushes. Not sure if you’d be able to find anything in a store but I guess it wouldn’t hurt to check, though exactly what section I have no idea. Not to mention I don’t know what stores you have in your area.
You can also twist a paper towel, work it down the spout and twist more. If there’s no little filter thingy at the base of the spout, you can just pull it through a few times. That should clear some of it.
For my small teapot I use Q-tips and a little moist baking soda Arm & Hammer sort of brushes it away. Also a very small toddlers/kids tooth brush I have also used few times for a larger teaspout. Pipe cleaners might be of use also.
I also use Q-tips, but my pots are small. For a long spout, Google “wooden Q-tip” and you’ll find the longer ones I used to use in a physics lab. They are sturdy, and about 6" long.
Here is what I use to clean with. Works pretty good. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Two-Ends-Brush-Cleaning-Glass-Teapot-Spout-CK-803A-Free-Shipping-/321094115848?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ac2b36208. Good trusted sellers for tea and tea wares.
Thanks everyone! As I’m the only tea drinker in my circle of friends, I assumed that someone among the Steepster universe would be able to help me out. I was right!
Again, thanks so much.

We just added the Siege Lambs Wool Soft-Tip Brush to our website. It is the best way I know of to clean glass teapot spouts. http://www.pittsburghcuppa.com/silawosobrto.html
If you buy what I think is called a Chado set, I hope I have the name right, a small set of tools used for Gongfu tea there is always a sort of reamer in there. Mine is a piece of wood with a sharp piece of plastic attached. This can work well some of the time and are available from many different sources of puerh sellers.

I have never cleaned any of my teapot spouts! The only time I clear spouts is when leaf gets clogged in my Yixings, and then I use a simple toothpick. With Yixing, patina is usually desirable, so I don’t mind one bit.
