Grocery Stores Stepping Up Their Game?
Hi everyone! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted here! I’ve missed all things tea!
One thing I’ve noticed, and am wondering if you all have noticed, is that it seems like the local grocery stores are stepping up their game.
For example, the local Stop & Shop (New England grocery chain) is now carrying Harney & Sons tea, and their own brand that has organic loose leaf teas. I haven’t tried them yet, but will be tempted to grab a tin and give it a try sometime soon.
Have you noticed a change at you local stores?
I have noticed a change in the big superstore type grocery stores. There seems to be a lot more loose leaf tea. Also a change in packaging and advertising that, to me, makes tea appear more appealing.
I usually shop at a small grocery store that doesn’t have tons of choices, but I’ve found Harney and Sons at a big drugstore in NYC which was a nice surprise!
My grocery shop has a smaller amount of teas but a larger shop of theirs in another town has a more extensive range so sometimes I go there to shop.
Loose leaf is still unavailable – except Lipton ;D in our small town grocers but the bagged selection is far larger than a few years ago.
The grocery stores I regularly shop at still only offer bagged tea (except maybe Twinings loose leaf English Breakfast). They have, however, increased their selection of bagged teas. I haven’t tried any to see how the quality is.
I have thought about this in Denmark as well. They don’t necessarily have a higher quality selection on average, but instead of a wide variety of Pickwick and an equally wide variety of Lipton plus one or two other cheap as dirt options, they have a larger variety of (bagged) brands and you’re more likely to be able to find some loose that isn’t Pickwick or Lipton. (Pickwick is a brand which is pretty much on par with Lipton. Same price, same expectations from the product, same type of customers, different brand)
Just a few years ago, I would say that you couldn’t get a worthwhile quality leaf in a regular supermarket. These days I’m not so sure. I think that’s marvellous! :D
Yep, and I love it! Stores here are now carrying Harney tins, Mighty Leaf, Two Leaves and a Bud/Paisley, Ahmad, Paromi, PG Tips, Whittard, Taylors, Zhena’s, Numi, Republic of Tea, Steven Smith (!), Rishi among others. And including specific green tea now. Pretty great.
Our local grocery stores do carry loose leaf teas, but not as much. It is great to other places around the world making progress!
