Supertaster, regular taster, or nontaster?
Well, which one are you? I’m quite curious to know if a certain group tends to like certain teas. Like do nontasters like green teas more?
If you aren’t familiar with which one you are, consider the following.
Supertasters hate coffee, dark chocolate, spinach, Brassica oleracea cultivars (Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale)….etc.
Normal tasters are fairly indifferent to the above.
Non-tasters really like the above- they generally like their coffee strong and black, and are the ones that dive in a bag of jelly beans picking out the black ones to eat.
I guess I would be a non-taster, although I don’t care for coffee. Actually, I do like coffee, but I can’t drink it. But when I did drink it, I preferred it latte or as a mocha. But, I will pick out the black jelly beans. I love dark chocolate. I enjoy the various types of cabbage when I’m served them, but, they are not something that I generally pick out at the supermarket to serve to my own family – so I guess that is to say that I enjoy eating them on a rare occasion, but, they aren’t a part of my regular diet.
I love super strong licorice and 99% dark chocolate, so that must mean I’m a non-taster. And green tea is my favorite, which I suppose makes sense because the bitterness doesn’t (usually) bother me.
I should probably post myself since it’s my thread.
Supertaster. I prefer oolongs mostly.
I actually had to think about this, but according to your guidelines Wonks, I fall into the non-taster category. I love my coffee like I love my mood…strong & black! And I love kale & cabbage…just not brussel sprouts. And I love black jelly beans…thanks to my dad for that.
As for the type of tea I drink the most, it varies. I love green & white, but lean a lot towards black & oolong. I also like rooibos. So really….no overall favorite. It changes way too much.
I guess I consider myself a normal taster as I have my limits. Brussel sprouts….Yuck! I do like kale in my detox juices!
I first started really liking matchas but have now moved on to oolongs. Mostly drink oolong followed by matcha and rooibose.
I’ve actually done the taster test thanks to a roommate who took a wine class and I’m a supertaster, though I love Brussels sprouts, kale, cabbage, spinach, etc, so I’m not sure of the classifications above Haha. But I love black and oolong not really green or white (very rarely…)
So supertaster= black #1, oolong #2
If you haven’t done the strip test for taster type I recommend it! Though if you Are a super taster, the worst thing you’ll ever taste in your entire life is the strip that determines if you’re a supertaster or not Haha
Hah, well I actually had my papillae counted. I’m right there with you with the black and oolong. I think that if a real statistical study were done, it’d reveal that tea preferences were based on the density of fungiform papillae.
I also want to say that it’s really weird that you can endure that type of greenery in your diet- that would be absolute torture for me. ;)
I’m vegan now, but grew up on such a bland diet (boiled plain chicken and white rice was a regular dinner) so maybe now my tastebuds are so grateful to be eating anything with flavor they don’t care what it is! Haha no I don’t know the only things I really can’t stand are coffee, black jelly beans, super bitter foods… I actually don’t even like dark chocolate I just can’t eat milk chocolate so I only eat it when I need my fix. I am fairly sure I’ve disliked green tea for so long because I was burning it. I’ve liked what I’ve had since having my new tea temperature kettle…
Not a big fan of Brussels sprouts or kale, and only like cabbage cooked with a bunch of butter, or maybe as sauerkraut on the rare occasion on a Reuben sandwich preferably with a beer…… Like dark chocolate, but not super dark, and mostly because dark chocolate kills my chocolate craving and I have to eat bags and bags of milk chocolate to get the same satisfaction. I like coffee, but it has to have additions of sweet and cream. Like black teas but usually need them sweet. Like spinach, but prefer it as a fresh leaf in a salad. Perhaps, I am mostly a normal taster! And I usually drink black tea.
i’m definitely a supertaster. i can’t stomach even the slightest amount of bitterness.
