Air tight, loose tea storage containers

I’m looking for suggestions on what air tight, storage containers are best for keeping loose tea fresh.

If you find a good source of air tight, light tight tea containers let me know. My go to store for tea containers was Teavana and they are no more. Their old style tea containers were the best though before they changed them. I have not found a new source since but I vaguely remember someone posting about a site called Infinity Jars I think. Although tea containers are just a small part of their selection if I remember right.

I believe that the best tea container is a zip lock bag that is closed in such a way to minimize the volume of air inside. With a tea tin, you wind up with a fairly large collection of air each time you open the tin, and the air just sits there oxidizing the tea in between uses. I have a bunch of old teavana tins that I no longer use (except perhaps to store several zip-lock bags).

I agree. Even when I use a tin, I seal up the zip lock bag and put it in the tin. In that way, I can enjoy some of my pretty tins.

Very good point. I’ve had a lot of teas go stale in airtight containers due to the air space inside.

Regular ziploc bags though aren’t always airtight. Foil ziploc pouches like these work best: https://amzn.to/2HwCWaQ

For something a little more attractive than a ziploc bag, you could try Red Blossom’s double-lid storage tins.

They are airtight, come in two sizes and look nice on the countertop or in the cabinet. While you’re there, their tea is pretty tasty, too.

I’m also considering some of these, from Rishi:

They also come in fancier finishes if that’s your thing. Does anyone know the dimensions of this tin? They’re not listed on the site.

Specialty Bottle sells basic some basic tins for cheap, I think I would get the “TLAT6”

I was looking for stackable tins, so I got a few of the Specialty Bottle model TSTK5. Happy with them so far: double lid, wide enough mouth for a tea scoop, reasonable size.

+1 They had so much more, it is unfortunate that they don’t add new stuff

That’s a good idea to put tea in ziplocks for the empty space in the tea tins.

I love double lid tins like this one. Really cool. You can find them on ebay https://sc01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1FBv3QXXXXXbaXVXXq6xXFXXXN/Custom-Double-Lid-Tea-Tin-Can-Tea.jpg

For anyone in the UK, we sell tea storage tins with a double lid. If you are interested, here’s the link – https://www.eastcottandburgess.co.uk/product-page/tea-storage-caddy :)

I found some good, inexpensive double-sealed tins at CostPlus/World Market. But I agree – I only use those to store zip-locked tea within unless I have enough loose leaf tea to fill it completely.
