Lapsang Souchong, is a black tea originate in Wuyi region of Fujian province.
The leaves of Lapsang are traditionally smoke-dried over pinewood or pine leaf fire, which gives this kind of tea one unique smoky flavor.
In 17s century, Lapsang souchong was brought in Europe by Dutch merchant, and got extremely prevalent among British royal family and the entire Europe. According to “All about tea”, which wrote by William Ulkers, in 1705, green tea was sold for 16 shilling per pond, Lapsang Souchong was sold for 30 shilling per pond.
Lapsang Souchong has one reddish brown color. It tastes not bitterness, and full of pinewood smoky flavor. Because the unique flavor, some people just say Lapsang Souchong is not their cup of tea; But some people love it so much, such as Winston Churchill, who referred to it in “Mountains and Rivers Without End”.
