Woman, 56, dies after drinking toxic tea from SF Chinatown shop
I’m not sure if this story is widely known:

I guess this shows that teas used in herbal medicine can be dangerous if you don’t have a good source. Just because something is natural doesn’t mean it is safe to consume. The way they describe the poison it reminds me of a fish they eat in Japan. This particular fish if not prepared just right is very deadly. But I am told it is really good if prepared right.
Going off topic, Fugu is very good, very poisonous and very expensive. You need certification and a special license to prepare and serve Fugu in Japan.
Went out with a group, 8 for a company dinner and as the restaurant only accepts cash, we took $4000 in cash. It was not enough. They sent another bill to our company for an additional $1000. It sure was good and I’ve had it number of times. Is it worth the money? Yes and no. If it’s on the company tab, then yes. If it’s my own money, then no.
I don’t think it was tea she was drinking, but more like a Chinese traditional medicine concoction.
