Am I steeping right?
I use to drink green tea, but I switch to ginger tea for digestion improvement? I still a newbie at tea steeping, but I steep the the tea the water doesn’t change much color. I have to squeeze the bag to get some of the tea stuff out. I dump the tea back in the water so I can squeeze out more of the tea stuff. Then eventually I get tire of that doing that and throw the tea bag away. Am I getting all it nutrient or am I boiling long enough or ginger tea is suppose to be almost as clear as water? What am I doing wrong Thanks!
It all depends on what the tea is made of. Does your ginger tea bag only contain ginger? If that is the case then the water may stay clear. How does it taste? If you are getting no taste then the tea bag is not steeping well. It is more likely due to the quality of the tea in the tea bag.
IMO you should not have to squeeze a tea bag to get the flavour out. It should steep out once you put it in the hot tea. However, if you prefer to squeeze it, that is fine. It is all personal preference.
Start with how does it taste? If you don’t like the taste try a longer steep time. But it might also just be the tea itself. Maybe it is not good quality.
Hope that helps.
Herbal tea usually require at least 5-10 minutes of steeping in order to extract the beneficial components of the herb. If you are putting your tea bag in your cup and adding hot water, cover your cup with a saucer while the tea steeps.
Some tea bags, as Lala said, just don’t contain good quality tea/herb material.
Ginger doesn’t add much color to the water, but there should be a strong flavor. As Whiteantler said, most herbal teas are best steeped for 5-10 minutes, and they should be steeped in boiling water. To help it stay warm you can rinse the cup with boiling water before steeping the tea, cover the cup with a saucer, and/or wrap the cup in a kitchen towel.
Thanks for the respond. Hey I got one more question. Should I boil water with the tea bag already inside or should I just boil the water and pour it on the tea bag? Thanks!
