Tea Ice Cream? Anyone made any ?
Silver needle? honey orchid oolong? shou puerh ? Tie Guan yin??
Anyone attempted making ice cream out of decent tea?
I’m just about to buy a cheap maker and start giving this a go
It was my goal over the summer to get an ice cream maker to experiment with things other than just Matcha ice cream, never did get around to it so my goal will be rolling over to this summer!
I do love me some icecream…and just thought how yummy Jin Xuan pistachio could be
My late partner and I made this kulfi years ago and we flavored it with black tea and chai spices. We just used a small ice cream maker that goes in the freezer. I recall this being marvelous.

I made matcha Ice cream with my grand-kids a couple of weeks ago. The recipe said to put vanilla ice cream in the refrigerator for 1 hour to soften, then stir in the matcha and put the bowl back in the freezer. I used caramel flavored matcha and they loved it.
Yes! We actually made some quite recently with Smitten Ice Cream. (Smitten is in the SF Bay Area and they invented a machine that will flash-freeze cream and sugar with liquid nitrogen to make the smoothest, creamiest ice cream ever.) It turned out amazingly, and it looked like this: https://www.instagram.com/p/BCS_-9vwsit/?taken-by=rosalitea
We’ve never tried making ice cream on our own but after the success of this project we think we’ll have to give it a try. :)
It was probably the best day of our lives. You really could throw any tea into their ice cream maker and like it. The good news is that Smitten always has Earl Grey on their rotating menu so you can usually find something with tea in it. And thank goodness for that!
There is a place in Austin that has nitro made ice cream. It’s good, but I’m a bit turned off by the price, the length of time it took to make my order of three cups (15 minutes) and don’t think they will be around long with that combo. It is a really neat idea, but not executed well here.
Never made tea ice cream, but I do like affogato with tea. Matcha with vanilla or mint ice cream is delicious.
I’ve never tried it and as much as I love matcha ice cream, I would love to try some other flavors!
I’ve made some with Harney & Sons Boston blend many years ago. Worked out really tasty! It was just a standard vanilla ice cream recipe for one of the little tabletop ice cream makers but I infused the cream with tea.
Never tried any other tea ice cream than one made from matcha. I think one made of dark oolong could take great. Anyone tried? Or wanna try to make one? :)
Never tried making tea ice cream (although I made a lot of ice cream while working on my degree at PSU). I have eaten a lot of tea ice cream though and will say that roasted oolong and shou puerh ice creams work surprisingly well!
There are some tea Popsicles at our natural foods store… I just can’t get myself to pay 6 bucks for only 4 of them….
