Very interesting, I had never heard of this style of brewing before. Can someone give me some guidelines re: how much leaf to water ratio!!?

I brew shou this style quite often using 8 grams for a 16 ounce mug. If I’m still going on the same mug for 8 hours or so, I’ll have added water when it gets half full, for 4-5 times. If the taste is starting to fade on the last refill or two, a small pinch of fresh tea will keep the flavor going.

I like anxi oolong or red/gold/black tea like dian hong. I usually do this when im in a rush or being lazy, so a small pinch (1.5-2g?) in a 12oz mug. resteep until you are drinking hot water.

I have noticed that it generally only requires around 1/3 of the amount of leaves I use for gongfu style. So I would wager that for a 6-8 oz cup I probably only use like 2g of tea (a teaspoon of small or rolled leaves, or a tablespoon of larger more open leaves)?
That’s a rough guess, as I don’t measure it, just sort of toss in the amount I think seems good and add more if it needs to be stronger, pull a few leaves out if too strong and re-add them in a later refill.

Do you all find that the caffeine hit is stronger with this style of brewing? I’m probably using too much leaf, but maybe it’s just the long extraction time.

I use to brew Jasmine Oolong in grandpa style. Is the only flavoured tea that I like. For me grandpa style is the best way to drink tea at work, it’s easy and it oly requiere a cup/glass and a kettle.
