I may order one or two teas this time around. I am definitely interested. Just trying to figure out if I have the money.
How is the 1999 Cangmi? Has anyone bought it?
Not having sampled them in advance, I’ve been basing my purchases on the excellent recommendations of Emmett and the TeaDB article and trying out a new cake with each order – no regrets so far.
Cangmi, assuming it’s the same material as Micang is a very mellow. It’s a good drinker with age, but don’t expect anything too dynamic.
Whats the deal with these teas, why are they special?
They are supposed to be fantastic but I haven’t yet tried them. I’m risking a lot of money on other peoples opinions.
It’s a lot of cash outlay for an unknown tea. I’d be interested in hearing your reviews.
I assume you have already checked out the website and 20 odd pages of detailed reviews of these teas on TeaDB. A few of the more popular teas have been reviewed on Steepster too.
They are decent quality; however, they vary in tastes. For instance, some of these teas hit a sweet spot for some Pu Heads while others are nothing too amazing. Personally, I like the Tsangliu and Yiwu Chawang. These teas don’t “do it” for some others though. The teas are higher priced, but they are much higher quality and suffice as a reliable “boutique” tea. I’d recommend contacting Emmet for a list of sample sizes. It’s a great experience to try some aged gushu good puerh.
I’m curious about what Yangqinghao teas people have tried and really liked?
I’ve sampled several and liked most of them, but really liked the Tejipin most so far. Tsang Liu is nice too. Those are the two that I’ve purchased shares of cakes; I would have purchased whole cakes if I’d had the budget to do so. I also have a sample of the Dinji that I’m afraid to try b/c I have a feeling I’m going to love it, lol.
how do group buys work? ima noob.
Well in this case it is as simple as we informing Emmett, by email, of what we want to buy. Emmett places the order on behalf of the entire group and on receiving the teas, ships them out to the individual buyers.
In some cases we save money both on the teas and shipping by buying in bulk, and in the case of these teas, I believe they are not available anywhere else and are lucky Emmett provides them.
so each person pays direct to emmett based on what they want, that simple? is paypal an option? i might be down for this next time if the funds are there.
Emmett uses PayPal. When you order, you PayPal the funds for the cake(s). When he gets them he sends you an email with the total shipping cost. You PayPal this second amount and the teas are then sent to you.
I’ve been in on two group buys so far, with no issues.
Emmett sometimes has a limited supply of samples available. Shoot him an email for details.
very cool. who do i follow to get news of the next buy in.. or do i just look out for it?
Keep an eye out here on Steepster. The announcement usually gets posted to the “Discussions” section about two weeks before the order deadline.
Who else is involved in the group buy this time?
Do you have an Instagram page? I would love to see photos of that order when you get it.
The Facebook page appears to be a closed group. Is it possible for me to join?
Thanks! I didn’t know the FB page existed and joined last night. Looks interesting.
