Verdant 5 for $5 comes to mind my apologies, thought it was free shipping everywhere.
If you like Japanese tea, I’d choose the $10 or $25 level here: http://www.yunomi.life/products/green-tea-promo-100-grams-of-green-tea-for-3-00-free-shipping?variant=9466224581 , they will treat you well

Other than that, which is a small list, I would recommend swapping here or buying from stash sales.

Hello, thanks for the suggestions! I’ll also consider swapping too!

JK Tea Shop has a lot of different tea samplers around the $10 range, and they give generous 15 g. samples. Shipping to the US was reasonable, so I wouldn’t expect it’s that high to Canada either. JAs eTea shop sells most of the same teas, but I think at a considerable markup. I’d compare and figure out what shipping will cost you where you live.

Life in Teacup gives 2-3 free oolong samples with every order, no matter how small the order. You have to check off the samples on the order form to get them. I ordered a $1.00 sample of a pu’erh tea, and got 3 oolong samples for free. The entire order, including shipping, cost me around US $4.50.

I don’t know much about Shan Valley Tea (or about tea from Burma), but I just found them online. They’ve got a $6 black tea sampler and an $8 green tea sampler.
http://www.shanvalley.com/

Den’s has a Japanese sampler in which you only pay for shipping. It’s worth that price.
http://www.denstea.com/

Yunomi has a better (and also inexpensive) sampler of the same kinds of teas.

I got the “5 teas for $5” thing from Verdant a while back and wasn’t particularly impressed with anything, but at least it’s super cheap.

And I think Taiwan Sourcing is selling low-cost oolong samplers for US $8 international shipping per order. I’d want to order more than 1 thing to make the shipping worth it.
http://taiwanoolongs.com/

Yezi Tea will send 3 free samples with any order, no matter how small. I find their prices too high for large buys, but they’re good for samples.
http://www.yezitea.com/

There are a couple of Indian tea companies whose names I’ve forgotten… I accidentally left their stuff behind when I moved, but when I find them, I"ll try to remember to add them here. You can get really cheap English-style teas from them. And I’m not sure how, but they made it from India to the US in less than a week.

White2Tea has 2 pu’erh samplers. I think their international shipping charges are low.
http://www.white2tea.com/tea-shop/product-category/tea-sample-sets/

And Tea at Sea, a Canadian company, sent a number of us here free samples about 6-8 months ago. They started out small, I thought, but suddenly have about 50 retail locations. I wasn’t really impressed with anything I got from them, but you could contact them to ask about samples.
http://www.tea-at-sea.com/

Nice list!

Note that White2Tea offers free worldwide shipping with either of those sample sets.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Thank you for the very extensive list!

Jk – Need to look into this one. Bit confused with all the shipping options.

Life in a cup – It doesn’t seem like they still have samplers (the last one was from sept 14)?/ Flat rate of $8.

Shan Valley Tea – Shipping would be $15 which is a bit much for my budget.

Den’s – Only to the States. Too bad. :(

Yunomi – One of the most promising one for me! I like all the options. /Free shipping after $30 (USD?) or flat rate $5.

Verdant – Free shipping after $35 or flat rate of $5. Might consider this one.

Taiwan Sourcing – Another promising one, especially with all the sampler options./ Flat rate $8.

Yezi Tea – $49 for free shipping. Might consider but seeing there are other options, not really a first pick.

White2Tea – Teas look great but a bit out of my budget. Maybe one day! I do like that the sampler has free international shipping (Thanks for pointing that out BezoomnyChaiVeck!).

Tea at Sea – They have some at some retail stores. I emailed and asked if they had the samplers in store./ Free shipping after $75.

Life in Teacup doesn’t have samplers, but they’re usually offering 2-3 different free samples with each order. You have to kind of look over the site and find where they’re listed. I couldn’t find it just now, so it’s possible that there aren’t any at the moment.

Yeah, I hunted around and couldn’t find it so maybe they don’t have it now.

Also, sorry about the Den’s rec. I know that must be frustrating. Yunomi really is the better place, though, so you won’t be missing out on much.

Yeah, Yunomi seems like my best bet. So, I may try there first! Thanks again for the list.

But that’s just Japanese green teas, which… I mean, I barely drink any of those. I really only like good hojicha. There are just a lot more different kinds of Chinese teas, which… If you figure out the JK stuff, I can’t recommend their samplers more highly. With Yunomi, you know you’re getting good examples of whatever you’re drinking too, of course. And some people mainly drink the Japanese greens. What kinds of teas have you liked in the past?

I tend to avoid Chinese teas purely because I’m Chinese (and I’ve spent my whole life drinking it). But, I’ll give JK another peek; I do like the idea that it has tons of samplers so, I’m sure there is stuff I’ve never tried!

I have a blog (www.teainspoons.com) if you’re interested. I’ve mostly been only drinking DavidsTea because I like how I can get just enough tea for two cups. Teas has become one of those fun past times for me, so I’m pretty open to trying anything!

Ah, then you already know what you’re doing with Chinese teas then. So Yunomi is a good option for sure. I’ll check out the blog.

I see you like flavored tea — many here speak highly of Lupicia, and I think they sometimes have samplers. I haven’t bought from them because I don’t really like flavored tea, but I’d go there first if I were looking for it.

Thanks for another suggestion! I’ll keep an eye on them. :)

I think I tend to go for flavoured teas because I’m use to drinking straight so it is fun to have different flavours.

They just sell 50grams or more, unless it’s in a special packaging set (I have a Hawaii set and it’s all 1oz but they only sell it in hawaii).

For OP, I’d get on the mystery bag, it’s 50% off. Shipping, unless they changed it, used not have Canada as an option, but you can contact them to do the order for you. Shipping wasn’t that great if I remember correctly. Heck, it sucks for USA even as they use fedex.

Thanks for the clarification Oolong Owl (Great blog by the way. I always read it and see what you think of teas)!

Upton teas has a number of samplers here:
http://www.uptontea.com/shopcart/catalog.asp?begin=0&categoryID=109
They also sell all of their teas in sample sizes so it is possible to make your own sampler. Very reasonable flat-rate shipping.

Thank for the suggestion! I’ll look into it as well! :)

Mandala tea sells samples of just about everything. One of my favorite vendors, Simpson and Vail, www.svtea.com, sells one ounce samples of nearly all their tea.

What’s good from Simpson & Vail? I just noticed their retail shop is a 30 minute drive where I live. Apparently they offer free tastings and scones every Saturday.

There are a lot of god teas from there. A couple that I really liked were White Ambrosia and Nepal Aarubotay Gardens Black teas. There teas are good teas for the price. They are perhaps not quite as good as Whispering Pines but are less than half the price. I have bought many of their teas and have always been happy with the quality involved.

Yeah, I noticed the prices are good.

Thanks for the suggestions. I find even sometimes one ounce being too much for me. I will look into them through!

I just looked at their website…(Simpson and Vail.) And did not see any samples listed.

I think Allan suggested the brand because they offer 1oz “samplers.”

Teavivre used to do a free tasting thingy. They would send you samples for free in exchange for reviews. I am not sure if they will do it but you could check them out. They also have decently priced sample packs.

Thanks for the suggestion! Teavivre does still have that option. I sent them an email. Wish me luck and they pick me! I also agree that they have a good selection of sample packs and it is free shipping after $30 which is doable.

I think they look at how many reviews you’ve done…I vaguely remember something like that. And I think they also let you choose your samples.

Tattle Tea is having a 2oz sale for only $2.50. http://tattletea.coffeebeandirect.com/. I cant vouch for how long the sale will last but its very affordable. I like a bunch of their white teas!

Sadly it seems like they only ship within the States. Thanks for the suggestion!

Oollo tea from Vancouver specialize in Taiwan oolong and offer a Taster box with 5 samples (5g) for 12$Can Plus shipping. Great quality tea. http://www.oollotea.com

If you like scented teas, Shanti tea (based in Ottawa) has organic teas with their own blend. They are selling sampling pack at good price. But stay away from their pure teas, I had some sample and they all tasted like blended teas. It suck to brew a Longjing that taste like a flower blend…lol https://www.shantitea.ca

If you google “tea canada” you will find a few other company who can send you sample but I don’t remember all of them. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the two suggestions. I tried to look for samples at Shanti Tea, I only found sample for each order? Or was it something else?

You have to sign up for a wholesale account to get the sample option. It is free to open an account so if you see tea that you like on the website, ask to get an account and order samples. They are around 2$-3$can for +/- 10g.

Thanks for clarifying!

This might not be what you are looking for but there is a thread here for Canadian Companies – with the icky USD exchange and normally high shipping to Canada – this might help you find Canadian companies that have small amounts or samples….

Never hurts to look! I already found one. Thanks for the link!
