I think that the dates will work just fine for me.

Also, when you say unopened package – for example, my local tea shop sells their loose leaf tea in mylar zip packages that are not sealed. I would probably put it in one of my new tins from Specialty Bottle and make a fancy label. Is this ok? It will be a very nice sizable gift, but not in a sealed package (but I think better than a sealed package?)!
