stop sending shit

I resorted to just directing all Steepster emails to be deleted, and no more notifications! The only emails I got were from discussion notifications anyway, so I’m not missing anything.

When you comment in a thread or create a thread, unless you’ve unsubscribed to the topic, you’ll receive notifications. You need to click the circle with the bell in it at the top right of the page of the thread from which you no longer wish to receive notifications.

When commenting on a thread there is also a checkbox right below that is automatically selected which says “Notify me when this topic is updated”. You can uncheck it before replying. I hate it too, I think the default should be no notifications.

There is an advantage to getting the emails. When a thread has been deleted you can go back and see what was said.

I set up inbox rules to forward all tea mail to a Tea subfolder, which I can peruse at my convenience.

I suppose I’m lucky in that I’m more of a lurker than a chatter, but I have to constantly make sure not to subscribe to a thread when I DO reply. It’s annoying to me only because I rarely check my email, and then when I do I have a bunch of emails for a single topic that took off while I wasn’t paying attention.

It’s definitely useful if you’re waiting on a response, or like the alert, though. So I’m not against it. I would like an option in the general settings that allows you to default to NOT subscribing to any threads (so you don’t have to uncheck that box below the textbox before posting anything each time—I constantly forget). And/or an option that does a ‘once-daily update’ instead that just summarizes all the topics you’ve posted in, that have updated that day.

That’s weird. I never get emails. Sometimes I miss comments because I don’t get notices.
