I’m relatively new around here, but I’d be interested in joining if possible

Lala said

Hey Shezza, have you swapped with anyone before?

shezza said

I haven’t done any mail swaps yet, but I did an in-person swap with MissB

Lala said

OK that sounds good. I don’t anticipate any problems with you joining in :)

Lala said

Hey Shezza, can you follow me so we can PM please.

I’m also new to Steepster and interested in joining.

Lala said

Hi Liz. You don’t seem to have any activity on steepster such as tasting notes or teas in your cupboard. Did u just join steepster?

Liz said

Yeah I joined a few weeks ago (mid-December). I’ve been reading some of the other threads about Tea Boxes and I thought it would be a good way to try some new teas.

Lala said

One of the things that has happened in the past with other TTBs (so far ours has been good) is they have gone missing mid-route. That is why in the guidelines for this box we ask that participants have some activity on steepster so that the participants in the TTB are familiar with eachother.

Perhaps you could have a bit more activity on your account so we can learn more about you. Write up some tasting notes, expand your profile a bit. I’m not saying no you can’t participate, but we just want to know a bit more about you. We do want to include as many people as possible in the box.

Liz said

Hey Lala, I totally understand where you’re coming from. If I saw an empty profile like mine I wouldn’t necessarily trust that person either :) I meant to flesh out my Steepster profile when I joined, but then I had exams, then the holidays….and now here we are in January. Oops.

Hey Liz, can you follow me so I can send you a PM.Thx.

I’m interested and as I have no classes this semester I should be a lot quicker about mailing the box.

Sounds good.

Sign me up! I have never participated in a box and have always wanted to!

Lala said

Glad to have you aboard Tigress!

tigress_al said

I would also be an ideal person to have at the start or the end of the box!

Lala said

Roswell Strange is also signed up, so between the two of you we can decide who wants to start and who wants to end with the box :)

For the record I’m totally impartial to whether I start things off or end them :) Though either way I think it’s a good excuse to meet up and have tea in person some time!

tigress_al said

Ooh yes!! Or a swap!

Just bumping as this thread appears to have magically disappeared and wouldn’t even pull up in the search discussion :S I had to wade through all of the threads that just contained the word Canada.

Just don’t want it to get lost :)

How many people are usually involved in a travelling box?

Lala said

We try to limit to a max of 10-ish people. Currently there are 5 people signed up. I am going to get this round going pretty soon so it might be a short round which is good.

A question—what do people usually package teas in to prevent contamination with other teas?

Lala said

It really depends on the type of tea. Most teas are put into a ziplock type of bag. Some teas are left in their original packaging. If it is a smelly tea, for example a lapsang, it is recommended to be double bagged to avoid scent contamination. Some people recommended tin foiling the zip lock which helps with scent. Some fragile teas can be wrapped in a bubble wrap type of packaging. It is no different then what you do for a mail swap.

I have foil zip bags now since after going through a few swaps and tea boxes, i found contamination to be challenging to avoid otherwise. If it’s going to be going out for a long haul versus a short swap, i try to make sure things are bagged properly. In swaps, occasionally i’ve used ultra thick dollar store craft bags, as ziplock bags (unless they’re freezer quality) tend to leak odors.

Thank you both. I haven’t yet done any swaps or TTB happenings, and I’ve been both curious and shy to ask how this all works.

random aside but if you’re planning on possibly hitting up the toronto tea festival – there’s an opportunity to do an in person swap with a few of us who are going/meet up haha

Liz said

I’ll be at the Toronto Tea Festival on the 30th if anyone wants to meet up for a swap or a cup of tea :)

Sil select said

Off the top of my head, Christina; Indigobloom; Kitenna; Cavocorax; Evol Ving Ness will all be there. i think closer to the festival we can maybe start a thread to get folks connected. I know my loose plan, provided cavo cooperates, is to get there when it starts on sat so that we can be gone before the crowds are stupid.

Yes! I am going. I don’t know how long I will be able to stay, but I will be there for at least a bit. And yes! I’d love to do an in person swap. You and I seem to have mostly the same likes, as far as I can tell. It’d be lovely to meet up and swap with and have cups of tea with all the few who are going. Yes! Thank you for suggesting it, Sil.
