Steepster Community Data Visualization- add to our collective knowledge, and you could win free tea.
So I found out today I have a week to create a dataset for later visualization… so I wanted to try and find a correlation between personality traits and tea habits. I will share it with the Steepster community later if this yields usable data.

Disclaimers: I am not involved in the tea business at all nor am I making any monetary profit off these results (they will only be used in academia). I just found out most data sets out there cost money :P and would rather spend that money on tea.
This is the first survey I’ve ever written so I apologize if it’s not uber professional. I can clarify things here, but otherwise give your best guess/ estimate. The first 4 questions are related to your Myers-Briggs personality type (I included a link in the survey if you haven’t taken it before).
Unfortunately graduate school doesn’t pay… well anything… but to compensate for your time and wonderfulness for taking this… I’ll randomly select a winner from the emails (last question of the survey) to make a tea package for. The data set for the winner must be complete (or almost- I forgive human error). I have a few nicer samples to share.
Also I’ll share any presentable project results with the Steepster community. Learn more about the steepster community at large and all.
My estimates are very guesstimated indeed. I haven’t the foggiest idea!
Estimates work! Honestly I’m not making any financial decisions off of this data, just trying to find trends. I’m super grateful that you took the time to help!
Now I’m wishing I had added a question to find out what teas are associated with what mood… since its 3/3 right now in being the determinate of what tea people brew up!
Haha just for fun… if anyone wants to try this out… drag and drop is a fun question type. https://umdsurvey.umd.edu/SE/?SID=SV_1ANVnkWawlnfuPH
For me that was the closest I could get to ‘time of day’. I tend towards strongish black in the morning, flavoured or oolong in the afternoon most often. Unless I’m very tired or it’s been a rough day, in which case I also turn towards the strongish (life-giving) blacks. :)
Yah… I found out tonight making surveys is hard… I wanted to make like so many categories… and then I remembered how all of those have to be drawn :P so tried to generalize.
Mmm when I am super tired I have my nice teas… which makes no sense financially o.O but man did tasty Fu Shou Shan keep me going tonight. I have an iOS produce delivery app prototype due this week for another class that I’ve endearingly named “Basket-Case”.
And is super curious I wonder if a certain trend in the data so far is going to continue. There is a statistically rare (in the general population) trend with the 5 respondents so far.
Title of this weeks visualization is going to be like: Why tea people are so awesome (other than the fact they are really nice at helping out with surveys)
Hey Phi, one thing – when you submit instead of letting you know you submitted, it takes you back to a blank survey. I’m not sure if my results went through or not because of that.
Well that was fun! Also awe fish don’t get their own category, just ‘other’ take that bettas ;)
Aww! I will add them if I do another survey type thing at some point later :P this was my first one and I’ve learned so much about writing surveys just from responses to this one. And now I am even more curious about our community! It’s fun looking at all the responses!
I can’t wait to see the results, if you post them that is, if not then I am glad that I helped :D
And don’t worry about the fish thing, other works fine, I just had to tease.
Contributed my kind of eccentric data. And figured out my personality type while I was at it.
