What's the best Shincha?
This is more out of curiosity then anything. I’ve never had Shincha, though the closest thing that I could imagine to it would be a Sencha in terms of taste. I’m not going to get one any time soon, but when I do, I want to know a few opinions as to which is the best one.
While I know Shincha is hard to find outside of Japan I would think Yunomi is your best bet. They sell every type of Japanese tea. If they don’t sell Shincha probably nobody does online.
Don’t know how good this is but they do carry it.

There was also The Tea Spot’s 88th Night, which is a commonly marketed name for the ones I’ve seen. http://theteaspot.com/88th-night-japanese-tea.html?catid=167
How are Yunomi’s other offerings?
When I was in Japan this year, I had a 2015 shincha that was so good that everything else had astringent notes I never knew existed.
This is what you should know: Amazing shincha is probably on the market for a month before it’s all bought up. When the season comes around next year, just trust me on this… search and search for shincha from okinawa.
There are a few different people to contact who work with a wide range of plantations and I also know a few people there so just let me know next year around March/April :)
Figured you would know something about this. :) And I will definitely remember. I also had a feeling it would be a purely Spring Tea, and like any green it might taste best during that season.
Shincha is still sencha, it’s the first flush tea of the year. Unlike regular sencha, it’s not nitrogen flushed and stored. I would describe it as a very fresh tasting sencha. I got some last year from Yuuki-Cha. Had to pre-order and wait a while but it was definitely worth it.
Capital Tea Ltd sells a few varieties of Shincha. I tried their Shincha Kuro last year and really liked it.
