Updated: What's this week's tea of the week from 52Teas?
It says your pecan flavoring is allergen free. Is your cheesecake flavoring gluten free? I have been wondering about gluten in your teas?
All our teas are gluten-free and all of our flavorings are allergen free with the exception of the teas with coconut flavorings (as coconut has been deemed a ‘tree nut’). Our teas are blended in an allergen free facility (except for the coconut).
Our teas area also vegan and organic whenever possible.
The only tea thus far that isn’t organic thus far (although none are yet ready) are the Shou Mei teas. For the reblends, I’ll use the Shou Mei because that’s what was used for the original and until I have time to test out those teas on the White Peony base that I’ve found which is organic, I’m going to stick with the Shou Mei because that’s what was in the original blends.
I hope that makes sense.
Just made my first purchase from the new 52teas! I’m curious, are you using the same suppliers that Frank was? You mentioned in the description of Pancake Breakfast that the base is different. I didn’t know if that meant you’re also sourcing the flavorings from somewhere else too.
Also, do you have any plans to make a permanent collection? Frank had one at some point but then it seemed to go away. I really liked that I could purchase Pancake Breakfast, among others, any time. It was nice knowing they’d always be there when I ran out. Thanks!
Thank you for your order! I just processed it and it will be in tomorrow’s mail!
We eventually will have a permanent line that we are tentatively going to call “D’s Teas.” “D” is a “Lilithism” (Lilith is my youngest daughter) and she called my oldest daughter D when she was too young to say “Amethyst.” We still call Amethyst “D” sometimes and interestingly enough, now Amethyst’s son has taken to calling Lilith “D.”
The permanent collection will be somewhere down the line, probably at least not for another six months to a year because we have a lot of catching up to do first with the Kickstarter campaign.
As for suppliers, I’m using some of Frank’s suppliers, mostly because flavoring suppliers are few and far between – most of the flavoring suppliers out there require a ludicrous minimum per flavor and we have a very small space that we’re working out of right now so not only do we not need 4 pounds of each flavor, but it’s going to be really costly to have to buy that much of any one flavor since we create a different flavor every week. Some of the flavors that I’ve found are outstanding enough though that it’s worth it to me to invest in large quantities because of superior flavor.
So as far as flavorings go – some are the same, others are not.
As far as teas go, most of my teas are from a different supplier – although with some of the reblends, I’m using Frank’s key supplier because I went with what tea I liked best.
The black tea is definitely different from the black tea base that Frank used. I’m sourcing teas from many different suppliers and I’m sourcing my spices from other sources. Some of the flavorings are the same, some are different.
Was that clear as mud or what? :/
Flavored hojichas make me weak at the knees, I think you have a fan!
(I like the edited posts, it creates less clutter. Maybe keep the previous week’s tea link in the heading of the thread?)
Thanks for the input, I’ll keep that in mind for next time!
I really enjoy the Lemon Cheesecake Bar Houjicha. It’s really good. My one problem with it is that it’s a bulky tea so I’m going to need to get some larger pouches for when we make Houjicha (and white teas and Wuyi Oolongs too, for that matter) because I cannot make 2 ounces of the Houjicha fit into a 2 ounce pouch. I could barely get 1 ounce to fit in there.
So … bigger assortment of pouches is what I need. :)
Darn it. Lost out on the Blackberry Custard Tart. That’s what I get for not pulling the trigger earlier. On the plus side, the nine other teas in my cart are still there, and oh look, a sale. I am weaaaak.
Edited to add: Hm. Looks like I encountered a bit of an odd hiccup in the site. I went through the process of registering an account, filling out all the information, etc., then I proceeded to pay with Paypal. Instead of directing me to order confirmation, it skipped back to asking me about my address/phone number and so forth. Filling that out again got me to the confirmation page, but now I can’t log in to check my order? I re-registered, but it says I haven’t placed any orders. Not sure if that’s a site-wide issue or if I just happened to stumble over something random, but I thought I’d post here.
I don’t know what’s in your cart at the moment, but I will tell you this: if you have any Lemon Cheesecake Bar Houjicha in your cart, there’s only one of those left in stock. The same is true of the Watermelon Mint Limeade Green Tea.
Oh good! It did go through. I was a little worried for a second there when it gave me the runaround. And yesssssssss. Fistbump~ Thank you so much! I’m really excited to try everything.
Oolong = safe bet
Any plans for some sheng blends?
Not at the present time. I’m not the biggest fan of pu-erh and so I’d need to find a Sheng that I fancy enough to work with. And since I’m not the biggest fan of pu-erh, I’m not shopping around for it very often.
The Oolong isn’t roasted, although that would be really good too.
Roasted banana oolong with a dash of cinnamon and butter rum cream on top = a winter treat
:)
