Favorite source for black dragon pearl? -edit- or other tasty sweet, chocolaty black.
hi all. been a while since i have been able to log on :( life and all that. anywhoo, i have a bit of money saved up, and i want to try again at buying some black dragon pearl, especially since the spring harvest will be out soon. so my question is as the title states- what is your favorite pearl? im looking for a rich, strong pearl, strong chocolate taste, with no sweet potato. i know tealux has a new harvest coming in soon, but i have had a bad experience with them, and have heard that their pearls are on the lighter side flavor wise, so im looking to try a new company with better pearls.
Curious as to what defines or designates a tea to be “Dragon” ? Is it related to the region of origin, or just the balled shape of the tea? I’ve always wondered this sort of thing, may as well ask here!
As far as black pearl tea goes, I can definitely recommend Zen Tea’s Phoenix Pearl. Admittedly the leaf shape is more ‘snailed’ than ‘balled’, but definitely check out its reviews on Steepster as it sounds like something you will like!
I looked into it, and read the desc. on the web site, and it sounds like something i would like :) unfortunately, it is sold out pending new harvest, but i emailed the company asking for an expected eta, or an email when it is in stock. thanks for the tip!
Fergy,
This is an easy one. Teavivre. www.teavivre.com
Their pearls have historically yielded a quality cup of tea with the cocoa notes you seek.
Their self-imposed quality standards are also something I appreciate as rather than sell sub-standard tea, Teavivre did not stock Dragon Pearls until the quality was sufficient. Wish more companies took that approach rather than just finding substandard inventory to pass on to unsuspecting customers.
Teavivre packing is first rate. A sealed bag with ziplock feature with bubble wrap surrounding it packed in box with additional padding. I have not had any of my orders arrive other than in pristine condition.
Their customer service folks are timely, helpful and their service is outstanding.
I received an update from Teavivre last night that their Feng Qing Dragon Pearl Black Tea harvest which was expected in April has been delayed due to two weeks of rain but that has passed and it is expected that the harvest should allow for shipment in May.
