Variable Temperature Water Kettle
Hi everyone~
I’ve been saving up for a variable temperature water kettle, but as a college student on a budget I want to keep it to about $70 and under. Are there any products you would recommend for that price range? Thanks!
The only one at that price point i’d recommend is the PINO PRO it allows you to set the tempt in 1 degree increments. I firmly believe that any other kettle would really be substandard and not worth the money no matter how little it was.

Jenny, I have used for the last 4 years a Supentown SPT SP3618, 5 temp kettle (Boiling, 208, 194, 176 & 140 degrees with cool down feature, 3.6L. Approx price is $56 – $99 depending on site. I love it. Replacement parts available. Check it out!
Nice…looks like this will be going on my Christmas list! For now I’ve been heating water on the stove and checking it with a cooking thermometer!

I’m thinking of asking for the pino for christmas(though I’d love the breville one touch that really isn’t in the budget). The Pino really seams like a great kettle a good value.
Could you ask for money toward the Breville? As a woman on a limited budget, I totally get not being able to afford it, but if it’s something you really want and would really use, then putting money toward something sub standard doesn’t make sense either. Ah, in an ideal world. :)
Hmm maybe with Christmas and my birthday combined over a few months…but they might all think I’m crazy knowing the money is going to a fancy tea kettle. Ah well they do know I’m a bit crazy when it comes to tea.
I’m still trying to justify the Breville in my head. I have the money for it, but I feel bad not using it on something that my hubby will enjoy too. I just got the Utilitea in the mail today, so I think I will have to wait on the breville at least until after my birthday (early Nov) or Christmas.
I know it’s mean, but it’s his fault he doesn’t like tea lol:) Just tell him “but honey… it’ll make making me a cup of tea sooo much easier… and you know how much I love when you make me tea.” That should work.
Maghann If you can afford it get it! It sounds like you’d really use it. It’s totally different than the Utilitea and if you haven’t used it yet you can sell it on ebay(well you can even if you have used it you’d just get more).
Think I’ll keep the Utilitea and get the Breville soonish. I will hold off until my birthday in two weeks and then check out the local stores. As I think I would have a hard time waiting for it to come by mail…but if Williams Sonoma doesn’t have it, I’m totally ordering online!
Does anyone know if Teavana carries it in their stores or just online?
My cousins were awesome enough to buy me a new kettle – but they got me the Pino Digital Express instead of the Pino Pro.
The Express is the 1st gen version of the Pro, here are the main differences:
Digital Pro:
1. It is our second generation of Digital Kettles and has several improvements such as;
2. Thicker stainless steel used for the body of the Digital kettle Pro.
3. New and improved temperature controller.
4. Digital components have been moved to the base rather than the bottom of the kettle where they are exposed to much more heat.
5. Base and kettle connector have been redesigned and it is easier to put the kettle back on the base.
6. The sprout is plastic free in pro but Digital Express has a filter made from plastic.
What do you guys think? Is it worth trying to return and get the Pro?
If cost is not an issue actually the very best Variable Temperature Kettle is made by Breville. For something even more amazing Breville makes a ONE TOUCH teamaker that automatically get your water to the correct temperature (digital) and then steeps your tea for the correct time and then will keep it warm for another hour. I completely agree, but since Jenny specifically mentioned being a college student and that money was indeed a huge factor, I didn’t bother to suggest something that I didn’t think she would even consider. I don’t like giving solutions that I doubt the person would be interested in. Although now that it’s the season for gift giving, I’d very strongly suggest she ask for one for her holiday gift or at least money toward it.
