Is there a company that will try to create a blend to match a particular tea?
I’m sure there’s a better way to describe that, lol.
I bought an herbal tea 10 or 11 years ago (eek!) at Fortnum & Mason. It was discontinued shortly thereafter, but it has been one of my all time favorites. I’ve never found anything similar to it, and although I do still have a couple of the individually wrapped bags (another eek!), I don’t have a box or any idea what was in it other than some vague guesses. I was wondering if there might be a company out there who will try to recreate discontinued teas, kind of like you can find people to recreate your favorite discontinued lipstick, lol. I know it’s a long shot, and even if it exists, it’s probably pricy…but still, dang I loved that tea…
Simpson and Vail has done it before. I’m not sure if this is a regular practice for them or if it was a favour for someone they knew well. It’s worth contacting them.
Any ideas on the ingredients?
Welll, I’m not good with that. It was called “Grapefruit, Orange, & Lime Infusion.” I think it most definitely had all those actual flavors. The drink is a ruby red, so I’m sure there’s probably hibiscus, but whether it was a small amount or just drowned out by the citrus, I couldn’t say. The real charm of the whole thing was that it was very flavorful, yet not at all sour. It was also one of the best warm drinks for a sore throat I ever found.
PS – I ever-so-kindly shared some “Cocoa Amore” with my sick husband, and he loves it, too!
It is almost for sure that there is a similar blend out there. You may just have to do a lot of looking at websites.
Will you please email my husband for me and tell him I’ll also need to try lots of samples from lots of different places? ;) Seriously, I’m sure you’re right – I don’t think there’s anything THAT unique about it (although grapefruit isn’t overly common), I just haven’t had any luck yet.
Have you tried this one, to see if it compares?

There is a company called Design A Tea where you can create your own tea blend. I think they usually allow the base (black tea, rooibos, oolong, etc…) and then two flavors, but it might be worth it to talk to them and see if they’d be willing to try a more complex blend.
2nd this. If their website doesn’t accommodate for enough customization, you can always email or call them. Brian was great about doing changes on the basic customs, even when I asked to change bits on their ‘signature blends’.
Alternately, sometimes I find dupes for blends on Adagio’s fan teas. (Which also lets you custom make your own.)
