So far it I’ve managed to make it almost three months without a tea purchase and hope to go another month or so. I needed to put a dent in my tea stash, it was starting to get overwhelming.

The year’s almost over so I decided to tally up my spending. I came in under budget this year, but that’s mostly due to the fact that I didn’t have the money to spend. I think I’ll set my budget for 2016 at $250, which seems like a reasonably obtainable goal considering how well I did in 2015. How did everyone else fare this year?

Would anybody be willing to share their tea spreadsheet? It sounds like such a good idea but I’m a bit too lazy to make my own…

Okay, I’m in. I’m not counting any prepared occasional treats (that would be Chai Lattes) at Starbucks, nor anything I purchase with a gift card that someone else bought for me. As for a budget, I’m going to just track this year to see where I’m at and then set a budget for next year. Last year was the year I really started drinking tea and I would consider that my initial “stock up” year where I had to try and buy new teas to figure out what I liked best and buy the tea making products. This year, I plan on keeping my favorite teas stocked and trying a few new teas here and there. I took advantage of the holiday sales in December and one more in January, so I’m hoping to restrain myself for a while and just use my cupboard stock for awhile.

January
$41.20 (Teavana – online)

I think I’ll go for $400 this year. And that’s going to count eeeeverything tea related: teaware, sweeteners, swaps—everything.

No purchases so far :)

I’m new to the site but not new to tea. I totally blew my tea budget last year. $ 600 budget spent about $2000. I am claiming part of the reason was to introduce my daughters (3) to great teas, then of course, they needed teaware. I naturally needed to test drive any teaware or teas that I was sending as gifts. I also gave teas for birthday, housewarming, and Christmas gifts. This means I can claim a mulligan on my budget and start over this year.

Budget $600 a year ($50 a month). So far I have sent $25.00. Wish me luck! I’m going to need it. Today my husband and one of the daughters are at Reading Terminal Market in Philly and I told them to go to Tea Leaf and get me something fabulous ( I hope they take the hint) and the new tea list.

Budget: $600.00
January: 37.00
Feb: 45.00. I’m trying to stick to my budget! So far so good!
March: 30.00
April: 0
May: 100.00 teaware and new electric kettle
June: 15.00
July: 45.00
August-October: 0
November: 30.00
December: 50.00
Total:342.00
I budgeted 600.00
that leaves me with 258 that I can put on next year’s budget.

Trying to set up a budget spread sheet – this is harder than I thought. The USD issue is confusing me – I understand the concept, but how do I set up the sheet to reflect USD and CDA? Not sure…
I WAY OVERSPENT in 2014 – I don’t even want to know. Not setting a budget for 2015 but I do want to keep track of tea and teaware purchases.

January
Tea 220.58 Teaware 80.79 Total 301.37

KickStarter Goat Mug 33.83
Camellia Sinensis Tea 76.07 Teaware 13.50
StreetShop88 Ebay Tea 24.37 Teaware 25.60
Fu Tea Store AliExpress Tea 31.67
Mandala Tea 88.47 Teaware 7.86

if you send me your spreadsheet i can likely factor that in for you…you can look at it a number of ways, depending on how you pay for your usd purchases…

Dexter said

But that’s the question…. today I did pay in CDA so just used the credit card conversion – ugly on the sheet but not really a problem. What happens if I pay in USD from my stash?

Dexter said

Sil – have you looked at/thought about paying in other currencies? On Aliexpress you can choose several different currencies including Euro. Would we get a better exchange rate against another currancy?

Sil select said

Because most currencies route through the USD, it’s generally not cheaper to go to the other currency, since it becomes a double conversion… If you’re pulling from your old stash of usd conversion, i’d plug in the rate from that day…. ie. use the rate at www.xe.com as it’ll be relatively close to what you’d get from a bank, but a bit better rate than paypal/credit card

I dunno man, it actually sounds quite reasonable to me.

I’m going for a super tight budget this year! I’m hoping for £100. Eek.

After Butiki have closed, I’m checking myself back in to the hiatus thread while I concentrate on 250+ sipdowns, so I’m expecting the majority of my purchases to be in January.

January Purchases
£17.35 – Butiki
£12.45 – My first ever gaiwan!
£2.90 – Postage for a swap with Red Fennekin
£33.84 – The rest of my Butiki order
£6.02 – Discounted Butiki shipping
£7.88 – Butiki (50% off sale)
£26.75 – Butiki mystery box #1
£10.95 – Verdant samples
£21.87 – Butiki mystery box #2
£17.94 – Customs fees D:

TOTAL – £157.95

Remaining – £-57.95

Nattie said

Okay I didn’t foresee the mystery boxes, and the Verdant 5 for 5 offer was just too tempting. My bad.

Lololololol. You have as many Butiki orders as me! I’m so glad that I am not alone :P

Nattie said

If I get charged on my last two Butiki orders when they come in I am so screwed.
