To be fair, I have a sniffy nose and have had a slightly crappy day.
However, I’m not overly impressed with the slightly herbed-bread smell I’m getting from the tea. The lemon is definitely there. So is the heavy floral hit.
There’s a feet-y smell in my basement office, though, so that’s probably contributing to my overall experience.
It tastes much better than it smells. The flowers that were overpowering when I smelled it sort of turn into dancing little taste fish and flicker across my tongue. It’s got a pretty nice body to it, too. Not as full as a rooibos, but not without some weight.
This isn’t a tea I’d brew myself if I was thinking, “Gee, I could sure use a tea right now,” but it’s perfect for working in the evening.
A tea I can brew, sip and forget about.
But again: sniffy nose; crappy day.
Preparation
A great mid-afternoon drink to help ward of the sleepiness that comes from studying. I rather enjoy having my iced green tea from Starbucks (or any coffee shop) as they do a better job preparing it for me. Today I’ve paired it with a pumpkin muffin, so the ginger really adds something to the flavor.
I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of this chai. I was expecting it to be a bag of weakspice, but it was actually quite flavorful! I steeped my bag for about 4 minutes, then added honey pearls. Perfect brew for a cool morning!
Preparation
Dry tea bag smells like Wrigley’s spearmint gum but without the sweetness.
Once steeped the mint doesn’t smell as strong. I don’t smell the lemongrass but I can smell a little bit of the lemon verbena.
It’s yummy! Minty, green tea-y.. it’s good :)
Preparation
A little better than the loose leaf format I tried years ago. This was my very first foray into loose leaf teas years ago and I must admit, I did not like it, but thought I would revisit it since Tazo revamped their line and now offers full-leaf teas in sachets for convenience.
Aroma: Very grassy, herbaceous and vegetal (the aroma is a precursor of what’s to come).
Taste: Same as aroma…grassy, herbaceous, vegetal. If you like Chinese green teas, you should like this one…it is very much the Chinese green tea. The grassy, herbaceous, vegetal characteristics are more prominent than Japanese green teas which are sweeter and milder than their Chinese counterparts. There does exist a slight mouth feel.
Aftertaste: The mouth feel lingers as does all of the characteristics of this tea.
Personally, I prefer Japanese green teas over Chinese green teas. This is a nice tea, it’s just that, “nice”. Not sure if I would buy it again, again, I prefer Japanese green teas.
Preparation
Wife wanted Starbuck’s. I thought sure I can have a nice cup of tea. Wrong. Wish I had read the reviews here first. As a general rule I avoid tea with more than say 3 ingredients. This rule has served me well. To bad I violated it. Another rule is tea shouldn’t be served in paper cups. The leaf looks interesting in the sachet. It smells interesting – kind of orangey. The taste at first was too bland. I can’t taste any tea. Put the bag in to steep longer. Now the fennel and licorice overwhelm causing my mouth to pucker and I still can’t taste tea.
I think I may have stumbled upon a chai obsession, thanks to the previous one I tried by Arbor Teas. I just had to have more chai and my mom had this lying around in her kitchen.
However, this is pale in comparison. A little disappointing. Sure, all the spices are there, but even after 6 minutes, it’s a little too mild for me after a splash of milk. But it would be good in a pinch if I really, really wanted chai and needed something cheap. I would maybe brew it a bit longer, or maybe with 2 bags.
It’s good, but not great.
Preparation
Meghann M sent me a couple of bags of this about two days after I had picked up the box at the store, seriously considered it, and put it back. Thanks, Meghann!
I’m very, very glad that I got to try this first. It’s not for me. I’m not sure if it’s the licorice, or the sarsaparilla, or the anise. But there’s just something there that isn’t doing it for me. I’m not even sure I’ll finish this cup, let alone the pot.
Yeah, no. I’m making something else now.
Preparation
This should be named “apple rooibos” and not vanilla. I brewed for 10 minutes, and it still seems a bit weak to me. The rooibos taste itself is barely there, the vanilla is pretty good, and the apple is almost overpowering. And I don’t really taste the tea when it’s in my mouth (almost like drinking water), but after I’ve swallowed, there it is. I’ll try brewing at 5 minutes to see if that makes it better, but as of right now, I’m not too horribly impressed.
