23 Tasting Notes
Second time making this tea and I was really looking forward to drinking it again. It was nice and sweet, and left me craving more. I steeped 2 teaspoons with boiling water for about 6 or so minutes. Wasn’t really timing it. The liquor is VERY dark this time. Darker than I remember. And the smell is much stronger. Still tastes pretty sweet to me, but I wish the citrusy orange taste came through a bit more. It would be 10 times better if it did.
Preparation
This is my first taste of Hojicha tea, so I followed the recommended steeping instructions (2 teaspoons in 16oz of water for 3 minutes). The liquor of the leaves is a brown, with a few hints of orange. Darker than the other green teas that I’ve had. The aroma isn’t so appealing to my nose. It smells like a bunch of burnt leaves and twigs honestly. I guess thats to be expected since they are roasted leaves. The taste is alright, but pretty bland with a hint of smokiness. Every time I take another sip it tastes more and more like twigs ( based off my assumption of what twigs taste like =P ). Not bad, but not too good either.
Preparation
When I steeped this tea I wasn’t expecting something that I would love. The fact that everyone talked about its smokiness kind of turned me away from it. But I went in with an open mind, and, sure enough, the taste is actually pretty satisfying. The hint of smokey flavor adds to the body of the tea and leaves an interesting aftertaste that I can’t really describe. I think I nailed the temperature on this steep. Overall, a decent green tea.
Preparation
Just a little update. As I got to the end of the cup, the smokey flavor became much “heavier” and the tea really dried out my mouth. Not an amazing ending to a nice cup of tea.
All I have to say is wow. I heard some great things about this tea, and some not-so-great things. Nonetheless, I gave it a shot and boy am I glad I did. I steeped 2 teaspoons for 3 minutes at a temperature that is a mystery to me. The aroma of the tea is amazing. The smell of the rice and popcorn really shine through. The rice and popcorn are also present in the taste, although just enough to make the tea differ from the other greens I’ve tried. The rice/green tea flavor just keeps me interested every time I take a sip. The only thing I don’t really enjoy is the aftertaste, which is almost a little chalky to me. Nonetheless, a great tea! I’ll be steeping another cup any minute.
Preparation
Just the second loose leaf tea I’ve tried and I’m already hooked. Steeped for 4 minutes at an almost boiling temperature. The aroma and color are awesome and are both much deeper than the green teas. This was my first time trying a predominantly rooibos tea, and I must say, I enjoyed it a lot. The taste of the rooibos is fairly sweet especially in combination with the orange, which I can faintly get a taste of. Honestly, I couldn’t even tell you if the chamomile is in the blend. I don’t have a clue what it is supposed to taste like. Anyway, this is a great tea and is worth a try (especially when you get it free with your order from Adagio =) ).
Preparation
So this is my first taste of loose leaf tea. I let the boiled water sit for about 3 minutes to attempt to reach the 180 degree temp, and then steeped for about 3 minutes as well. Don’t know if I hit the right temperature, but thats what it’s all about, experimentation. The aroma of the dry leaves doesn’t really match the aroma of the tea in my opinion. But the taste is really nice. It’s very basic with a mild hint of the citrus flavor. It leaves a sweet aftertaste on the palette. Great introduction into loose leaf teas!
Preparation
I’m not sure if this will be your cup of tea or not, but if you want more of a punch from the citron you can try 4.5tsp in 6oz of 160 degree water for 1.5min. I always enjoy reading 1st loose experiences! Happy experimenting!=D
Adagio was my intro as well- they’ll have you hooked w/ the frequent cup points:) Which can actually be a bad thing cuz I didn’t explore other companies til… well… steepster:)
SECOND STEEP
Liquor came out a lot darker this time. A little more flavorful and definitely less chalky tasting. Nice.
