289 Tasting Notes
A very nice tasting ripe from YS. It is quite complex. There is some fishy flavor, so it will probably benefit from some aging. It’s an interesting mix of sweet dates, coffee, and bitter chocolate. It is dark and thick, and seems to have a lot of caffeine. I like it! I think it has a lot of potential.
This is a nice somewhat aged pu erh. The first few steps were kind of mushroomy, but later steeps were a bit fruity. It had a nice Amber color. The tea held up to many infusions, so I’d say the leaf quality was high. Not much astringency, for better or worse. It’s kind of expensive, $142 for 400g, I only bought a sample.
I have never ordered from Chawangshop before. Would you recommend them? It says you can only order a maximum of 10 samples. I also can’t see the EMS shipping option..
They are a reputable seller. Many of us order from them. The shipping is kind of expensive, though their teas are often quite cheap.
@tea123 they are reputable. Honza the shop owner works the EMS to your advantage. It is usually cheaper than the quote you get.
Thanks. I have now made my first order to Chawangshop. I ordered with SAL option. I later received an email asking for payment. The email had EMS shipping, which is slightly cheaper at $22 than the SAL option of $27.30.
Excellent! They have a funny way of ordering and payment, but it works. He is a great seller. What were the highlights of your order?
I’ve been out of pu erh commission for several months now, but am making a comeback. I was having some stomach issues, and pu erh was especially hard to drink. I’m still having some issues with ripe pu, but today’s raw want down smoothly. this is a Jalam tea club offering from several months back. I was only a member for a couple months because I figured it was too expensive on a per unit basis. $24 for a 100 g cake is about a $84 per cake. not cheap. But the tea they offer is damn good.
This was a very nice cake. Super fresh smelling, like fresh cut flowers. The tea was not bitter, very smooth, flowery, and honey like. The quality reminds me of Tea Urchin. A superb tea. I just rejoined the club.
There are some ripe teas that I find have a very special texture. I think of it as kind of velvety. This is one of those teas. It’s flavor is not terribly deep, but the quality of the broth is really nice. It is a semi-fermented ripe, meaning the fermentation process was stopped about midway through. It is a high quality tea for sure. There is some bitterness, but it is integrated well, with a smooth base underneath. Not the most potent of flavors, but I liked it nonetheless.
This is one of the top ripes I’ve tasted from Puershop. It started off a little bitter, but that faded and it became quite smooth. It has a velvety thick texture and very good flavor. Moderately earthy and dark, but not too much. Kind of safe tasting and a pleasure to drink. As is typical with ripes from Puershop, it is very reasonably priced.
Another tasty nugget from Puershop. This little tuo is cheap but pretty good. It is a little sweet with a fruity date like note, kind of light. A good one to try if you want to sample this kind of flavor profile. For those of you like me who like it strong, you will have to add lots of leaves. This one doesn’t give a whole lot, but it is nice.
