This is a unique tea to be sure. It’s made from Wild Tree Purple varietal tea (ye sheng cha) growing in Jinggu county. The tea grows wild and is only harvested in March. The tea was processed using the same technique used for Yue Guang Bai… after frying, and rolling the tea wilts briefly before put into a long wind tunnel tube where warm is pushed through and gradually halts the oxidation of the tea.

The taste is something unique too. There is alot of complexity, with notes of fruit, flower, sugarcane, and a kind of bitterness that fades quickly. With even a few months of age the bitterness will transform into fruit sweetness with a long lasting after-taste. The tea soup is yellow, and is thick and soupy.

Strange Brew. Very strange. Lots going on.

It crossed some lines I didn’t know could be crossed and I got steamrolled.

Strange combination of honeysweet linen-floral white, bitter and fruity yesheng, with the maltiness and baked goods taste of aged yueguangbai and some kind of weird musty meatiness and pungent herbaceousness. Body flattening yet heady energy. Great strength in aroma, taste, aftertaste, mouthfeel and returning sweetness. First handful of steeps are best when prepared gongfu. Thins out and gets metallic quicker than I would’ve thought based on the thickness of the first several infusions. I really wonder how this would perform with other methods.

Unsure how often I’d drink it.

Please tell me there were straightjackets involved. No joke, a few relationships ago, I expressed my affection for my partner by steamrolling him. Frequently. He didn’t seem to enjoy it as much as I did but if he had told me to take off, I would’ve.

There were no straightjackets involved, but we managed to get around that fact by pulling our arms back through the sleeves of our shirts and acting as if we were wearing straightjackets. Oddly, no alcohol was involved in this little incident. We just decided to play steamroller in the middle of the night.

I regret not buying this tea sooner. It is a unique white tea with notes of floral, grass, peaches, herbs, melon, aloe, and pine, with later infusions getting dark and malty. It has a thick thick texture and actually has a lingering aftertaste, aftertaste being something you don’t find in white teas that often.

Still one of the best teas around. Hints of sour fruit like a pickled mango with a splash of IPA. Punchy. Strange. Enjoyable.
