This rare offering is the finest that the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, India, has to offer. “First Flush” refers to the harvesting of only the new spring growth, done in March of this year. Sold as a black, this tea has some of the delicate characteristics of a Chinese oolong, owing to its spring harvest and gentle processing. A pronounced muscatel aroma leads to a profound floral characteristic through the first few steepings, progressing to a brisk, full cup. This example lives up to Darjeeling’s reputation as the “champagne of teas.”
Brew 1 minute or less at 190°F to preserve the nuanced flavors and prevent embittering; 5 steepings.
