Xiao Ye Huang Dan has been cultivated in Anxi for hundreds of years, yet remains one of the rarer oolong cultivars, perhaps because its delicate floral and fruity aromas require expert hand-finishing to truly bring out. It is named for the distinctly yellow color of the leaves, and is grown in extremely small quantities in Daping Village by Master Zhang as part of his effort to preserving a biodiverse environment for tea. His expert deep roast manages to highlight the natural juicy fruit flavors of the tea while coaxing out a powerful sparkling minerality that gives this special varietal a strong identity of its own.
