Fujianese white teas have the most unique crisp quality to them. Ever since our Yunnan White Jasmine became a hit, we have bene looking for a base of comparison from Fujian. These downy buds are from wild arbor trees growing at over 1000 meters above sea level. The natural crisp and fruity notes of Fujian are even stronger in wild teas like this one than in cultivated shrubs.
The first steepings reveal an expertly hand-scented tea with a balance of crisp pear and apple notes offset by a silkier creamy jasmine flavor. The aroma contributes an almost tropical feeling to the tasting experience, reminiscent of plumeria. As the tea steeps out, the traditionally scented jasmine remains, and complements spicier notes in the white tea.
While our Yunnan White Jasmine is focused on a silky creamy texture experience and rich florals, this jasmine has a playful dynamic of counterbalance between crisp and smooth, spicy and floral. Wang Yanxin sent us four pounds just for fun. We very rarely come across Fujianese white teas with a texture we are happy with, so it is exciting to have even a limited amount to share.
