Ugh steepster is fighting being good today. log from this morning since it’s been a crazy week and will likely be an insane week with all the last minute work and prep to do, i foresee some crappy tasting notes this week. BUT i did get my samples today from a tea company out in edmonton so i have those to look forward to tonight!

mrs.stenhouse12

Oooh what company in Edmonton?

Sil

haha are you out there? Acquired Taste Tea. If you email them, they will send you a couple of samples of your choice to try. The packaging is nice and the sample is enough to have a sil size cup or two “normal” cups :)

mrs.stenhouse12

I will definitely check them out, yeah I’m actually from e-town haha I actually just looked them up and they aren’t too far from me! Might have to go to the store as well :D

I have to say, read in full this comment thread is amazing. I like how it just restarts and is nearly, but not completely, identical.

Continuing on with my Black Tea/Upton World Journey…I’m now in CHINA…oh…I wish I really were in CHINA.

Anywhooooooo…

Other than the black tea base I can smell a hint of fig. It’s neat.

It’s a medium-brown sort of color.

Yum! This is a nice change-up from the last few black teas I have had today. It’s smoother, almost. It’s lighter. A bit mellow. A little like sweet-wood. It has a nice finish – easy to handle…pleasant.

Nice!

Bargain Basement Time-

Onto my cup #9. (I just have to thank Upton for having such a vast variety of teas for sampling! Huzzah!)
This one is probably the cheapest of the bunch. It is one of their Season’s Picks, so the minimum you can order other than a sample is 250g. But is it only $4.70 for 8.8 ounces of tea, or 53 cents an ounce! Yes, truly a bargain. To break that down even further, using the average of about 12 cups per ounce, we are talking about 4 cents a cup. When I make a pitcher of iced tea, I use about 6 tsp, so my whole pitcher is about a quarter. Now that is a refreshing number.

All of those numbers sound great, but how does it taste? Really, it is pretty good. I am positive it would beat Lipton easily for taste. There are no roasty, toasty, notes, or hints of chocolate, but it is a good solid, smooth tea. Upton describes it like a Keemun without any smokey notes. If I did not have about 20 varieties in my cupboard to make iced tea (meaning teas I bought and did not really care for them hot), it would be on my shopping list, because I do like this one hot, too. Maybe next season.

(Better go make something iced ASAP.)

And my second steap was good!

It is when you start buying “cheap” but “serious” tea like this that you begin to realize just how HORRIBLE the stuff in tea bags really is.

You’re down to 4 cents a cup, and a Lipton bag wouldn’t taste as good? What does that tell you about the (literally) worthless powder they’re putting into those bags?

Thank you TeaEqualsBliss for sending me a sampling of this tea.

I love that autumn has finally arrived. I love the chill in the air, I don’t even mind that up here in the Pacific NorthWET it rains more than it shines this time of year. I love it.

And this tea … seems the perfect way to welcome autumn. It is rich and warm with smoky tones and so inviting. I like that the smoky tones are there but they aren’t in my face. It’s smoky but not too much. It’s a rich, full-flavored cuppa with enjoyable caramel-y undertones.

A really nice tea. I’m glad I got the opportunity to try it.

Sipdown!
Although this doesn’t get deducted from my total (305), because it’s from the Here’s Hoping TTB, still, there is a certain sense of gratification.
