From Traditional Medicinals

Personality
Smooth and silky.

Herbal Power
Helps you sing it loud, say it proud, stand up and be heard.

Reason to Love
Slippery elm or Ulmus rubra (Latin for “red elm,” so called for its lovely reddish bark) is a beautiful, native North American elm tree. It’s the inner bark of this tree that is actually called “slippery elm” due to its, yes, slippery, smooth, and slimy-in-a-good-way properties. Combined with licorice and marshmallow root, we think this tea blend is like taking your voice to the spa—because we all need a little comfort sometimes so we can get back to being our best.

Taste
Sweet and earthy, silky, with a distinct licorice taste.

Directions
Pour 8 oz. freshly boiled water over 1 tea bag.
Cover cup & Steep for 10-15 minutes.
Squeeze tea bag to ensure maximum goodness in your cup.
Enjoy 4-6 cups daily. Especially good with honey!

One of the primary sources of wild slippery elm bark (an ingredient in this tea) is in Eastern Kentucky. We are honored to partner with rural Appalachian families there who approach their bark collection with a deep reverence for the trees and plants of these hilly forests. Carefully harvesting limited and sustainable amounts of the bark by hand, they are maintaining the health of the trees, and preserving this precious resource for generations to come.

Ingredients: Organic licorice root, Organic slippery elm bark, Organic licorice root dry aqueous extract, Organic marshmallow root [PhEur], Organic wild cherry bark, Organic bitter fennel fruit, Organic Saigon cinnamon bark, Organic sweet orange peel

Well, it does feel good on my throat. And it’s sweet and a bit cinnamony. Mega licorice, which is sort of the point but would probably be a dealbreaker for some people.

This tea isn’t very tasty. It takes some getting use to. However, drinking this is ESSENTIAL to preventing and healing sore throats and laryngitis. I recommend this to anyone having those issues.

I think this is my first note for anything that doesn’t have Camellia sinensis in it. I usually don’t go for herbal or medicinal teas, but I was audacious (or groggy) enough to try this while I was sick. The official description on the box literally says “slimy in a good way”. That wasn’t terribly reassuring, but it was accurate, and basically how a demulcent is supposed to work. It’s soothing and doesn’t taste icky, though I can’t say I was really in a state to make a good assessment of the taste. Sweet and…unfamiliar? Woodsy? Anyway, it was pretty not bad and worked fairly well, so I’m happy with that.

Got the traditional medicinal cold sampler box. I drank this a couple days ago. It is pretty good, it has that sneaky sweetness from licorice root. I tried it brewed with a couple different teas to see what I like. I liked it brewed with tazo vanilla rooibos, it was very good. Just FYI not so good premed with tazo passion, drinkable but the flavors do not meld at all. Anyways this is a decent tea, but I didn’t notice any specific throat benefits from it so I prolly won’t buy again, I think I’ll try some different brands.

I’ve used this in the past. Apparently I have been pretty healthy lately because I haven’t had to use it for awhile. I guess all those years teaching and being surrounded by little kids may have given me a bit of immunity. :-D

I thought I got immunity from teaching but my immune system tanked a few years ago. I have been working on building it up but it is a slow process.

Always makes me feel better when I feel a cold coming on. I always add honey and I don’t mind the flavor at all.

Lovely liquorice flavour, and soothes the throat. Overall a very nice tea, and really picked me up from this mild scratchy throat.

I’m about to brew my third cup of this today. Sore throat city! Should have taken better care of myself yesterday and not breathed in so much smoke while smoking the Thanksgiving turkey. I don’t mind the flavor, being a lover of licorice and anise, I just wish I could enjoy my other teas right now. The first cup definitely made my throat feel better, so at least it is doing the job!

The first time I purchased Throat Coat was when I had a terrible cold that was already well underway, meaning my taste buds were completely out of commission (I can’t taste a single thing when my sinuses are blocked). I steeped it exactly according to the directions on the box and had it several times a day. Thankfully, it really did help my throat feel better (the only thing that did!) and I really enjoyed it. It does seem to coat the throat and feels thicker than other teas. To my surprise, when my husband tasted it (before I took a sip of course, didn’t want to spread germs), he thought it was disgusting. He’s not much of a tea drinker though, so I just shrugged my shoulders and continued to drink it frequently. As soon as my nose unclogged enough for me to be able to taste AT ALL though, the extremely unpleasant flavor of this tea became immediately apparent and I couldn’t choke it down anymore. Thankfully by then my throat wasn’t hurting as badly. I still buy this tea if I have a really bad sore throat, but only if my nose is all plugged up as well! This is honestly one of the worst tasting teas I’ve ever tried, so I give it a 5 for flavor, but an 80 for how much it helps my sore throat.

Perfect to drink whenever your throat is feeling raw. The instructions say to steep it for fifteen minutes; it’s worth doing this if you have a really terrible throat, but I like to put a cover on top of the cup to try to keep it warm while it’s steeping. A thermos would be an even better idea.
