Description

Balhyo-cha what literally means “fermented tea” is unique Korean tea which we can describe as kind of black tea. Each family in Hadong have their own way to produce it but some basic rules are always present: picked leaves are left for some time to darkening and then put to warm and humid room to increase darkening and oxidation level.

Our tea is kind of a micro-batch family production, not made for sale, but thanks to our friend we were able to source one kilogram for you (and for us).

Wild bushes grow in Jirisan National Park, where first tea plants (from China) were successfully introduced in Korea during 9th century.

In the distant past, this place was a regular tea garden, but abandoned centuries ago, it has gone wild and has become a part of the local forest ecosystem.

This tea we should call “the essence of the summer”. You can find here notes of sour fruits (red currants, quince), herbs dried in the sun (myrrh, st. John’s wort) and subtle, sweet notes of honey.

Truly amazing tea that will make you happier. Brew with attention.
