From The Tea Girl

A blend of organic rooibos flavoured with pine like Juniper berry and a creamy cranberry finish. The blend is reminiscent of hiking the Canadian wilderness in the late summer, with juniper berries, cranberries, Labrador tea and Birch bark.

Ingredients: organic rooibos, juniper berries, cranberries,Labrador tea, birch bark, flavour.

Blenders Notes: The profile of this blend is meant to highlight herbs and fruits native to Canada while utilizing herbs picked by Indigenous locals in northern Saskatchewan employed by Boreal Heartland Herbal Products. I have been doing a rapid sipdown of ‘the tea girl’ sample tins this week. Taking 4 hour online lectures has proven to be a great motivator to cruise through some quick accesible tea (ie tea samplers). I drink out of fairly large mugs or like my tea stronger so i just put an entire tea tin (about a table spoon in size) in my steeping basket. So far I think I have drank a half of the tea girl samples I have received. Hoping to polish the rest off next week.

Prep: Western
Tasting note: I think my tea was a little muddled, I got a bit of rooibos, but the cranberry and other “foresty” flavors were faint. This tea didn’t stand out as much as I thought it would in the flavor department.

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 30 sec 2 tsp 14 OZ / 414 ML

This immediately seems like one of those cases where I had an idea of what I wanted this tea to taste like and it just wasn’t quite that. However, that doesn’t mean it’s a bad tea – far from it. It does mean however that I will need to taste again with a more open mind to really decide how I feel about the blend as a whole. What I wanted when I picked out this juniper blend was the strong woodsy and pine notes of the juniper which I imaged would play very well with a rooibos tea base. Instead it’s got a pretty distinct red fruit/cranberry sort of taste. I like cranberry teas, I just wasn’t expecting that to be so forward…
