Wow! This was way better (and different) from what I expected! Thanks for sending me a sample, Azzrian!

The coconut flavour in this blend is definitely different from the typical coconut you get in many teas – it smelled and tasted much like fresh coconut water or milk, which I adore. But it didn’t just taste coconutty – I tasted the white tea underneath as well! Delicious! Unfortunately, I put it in a travel mug after the first sip, and I guess I hadn’t washed the mug out well, because it tasted soapy :( And this time, I definitely don’t blame the tea, because I sampled it pre-mug and it was amazing. Second infusion (180/5.5 min) loses flavour but is still delicious. It’s also a little teeny bit bitter, but I did kind of oversteep it…. (also, just noticed there’s a wonderful creamy aftertaste. Heaven!)

I must say, I’m very, very impressed with the first blend I’ve tried from The Persimmon Tree!! That order is probably going to happen sooner rather than later…. (I want more of this!)

ETA: Third infusion was alright. That was enough, though.

Hmm….coconut white hey…2 of my favourite things for tea. I guess I will “have” to look into this company!

Kittenna

Their Canadian shipping looks awful, so if I order, I’ll be sending it to one of the lovely American Steepsters to re-send to me. If you end up wanting to sign up, get some to refer you, because we get points that way (=free tea!)

tigress_al

Grrr it is frustrating some of these amazing looking tea sites and they have atrocious Canadian shipping :(

Kittenna

Yeah, 20-odd dollars for anything. Absurd. Luckily there are kind Steepies :D

Emilie

You should look into trying out their Mandarin Silk Oolong, it’s really good

Azzrian

Emille yes it absolutely IS amazing! I love Mandarin Silk !!!

Kittenna

Azzrian sent me some!! :D It’s upcoming.

Bonnie

You guys up late again?!

Kittenna

It’s only just before 3am… hardly late! :P I’m watching the re-run of the Riders vs. Eskimos game (CFL football). And I’m folding laundry. :D

Azzrian

I went to bed early Bonnie :) Im a good girl hahaha yeah right I shut down my computer and played games on my phone until I could fall asleep around 5am! Eek!

Made a 2nd infusion of this last night and iced it and man it held up well! It’s nice and sweet without any sugar, but not overly sweet. The ultra creamyness falls away to make way for the coconut in this batch. I don’t know if that’s because 1. I didn’t add soy milk, 2. It’s the 2nd infusion, or 3. It’s iced…..

I’d prefer a hot cup right now, but for some reason none of my travel mugs want to agree with me. Something I am NOT happy about since I start commuting via train next week. Speaking of which, gotta go buy my monthly rider pass now before the ticket booth closes at 6:30am! :)

Side note: I’m putting together a tea sampler box for my aunt today. She said she drinks “Mostly English Breakfast and Earl Gray… occasionally a dessert chai”… OHHH I’m so excited to corrupt and convert her to this wonderful world of tea! She has no idea what she’s missing!

Okay so I bought this a while ago but something went funky with it I guess. It started to smell off like metal almost and I tried drinking it and it was horrid. So I asked in my last order with The Persimmon Tree to send me a sample – just so that I could be sure it was in fact that the tea was off and not me, my steeping parameters, my taste buds etc lol
Ends up it has to be my batch of tea as this sample is YUMMY!
So not changing my rating from before which was right when I first got it before it went bad – and is a fair rating for this tea. :)
Glad I got that figured out – just sad I have to dump a 3/4 full tin of tea. Bummer.

I decided to give this tea another shot as a cold brew. It wasn’t really my cup of tea hot, but iced + coconut usually = good things! This got a short steep, since I made it last afternoon and drank it around midnight, but it was delicious! The white base really shined, and wasn’t as overpowered as it was before. The coconut is nice and fresh-tasting, and the cream is a LOT more subtle and doesn’t overwhelm the other aspects. Cold, I could see this being something I reach for often, very tropical and summery. Upping the rating a bit!

Dear Steepster,

You need to try this tea cold steeped. I didn’t think it would turn out, as I thought the coconut wouldn’t come through very well. I was totally wrong. 3.5 hours in the fridge turned this tea sweet, coconutty, refreshing with lots of levels of dimension from the white tea. Also creamy. Better than coconut water!

Wow! I’ve only tried a few teas from Persimmon Tree, but they’ve all left very good impressions. They seem to have the flavoring of teas down to a science or something, because the flavored teas I’ve tried from them pull everything off so well. The tea flavor itself is there, mixing perfectly with whatever other flavor, neither overpowering the other.

Now on to this particular tea. I love love love the dry smell of this. It manages to make you feel like you’re actually eating coconut. It smells like real coconut, not the fake coconuty flavoring other things seem to have.

As for the taste, it seemed like the white tea itself was the main flavor, with the coconut creme accenting and adding to that. I can’t say much about the white tea, as I’m not too experienced with that, but I liked what I tasted. The coconut taste wasn’t too strong. It was just right. It added to the tea flavor and made the tea smooth and creamy tasting.

I only have a sample size, and I’m definitely buying more once this is gone.

Love this one! And also drank it tonight :)

Oolong Owl

wow, I need to buy the sample of this! Sounds good

Emilie

We had a tea connection going on, Kittenna! Haha.

Once I buy some more, I think it’ll be good iced too!

I’m jumping on the bandwagon of minimizing the font size on personal stuff so it’s easier to skip. So here goes.

Fiance came back from his business trip on Friday! He even brought me back something. Strep throat! Thanks, honey!

So, I went to the doctor yesterday so I don’t give it to everyone ever when we go to his parent’s cottage for the 4th; and she prescribed some Augmentin 875. Now why you would prescribe a pill that large to someone who has a sore throat is really beyond me. It seems a little sadistic.

I want Fiance’s iron clad immune system.

This is really lovely with the safflowers and the cornflowers. The orange-y red and blues play off the leaves really well. The dry and steeped aroma reminds me of coconut water.

The taste was 80% fresh coconut taste to 20% white tea with a nice smooth/milky mouthfeel. The coconut flavor is natural and naturally sweet, and I would guess a touch of rock sugar would only amplify that further.

I drank mine warm because cold things hurt right now, but Fiance drank his cup chilled and decided that if coconut water tasted like this we’d always have some on hand.

Don’t forget to throw away your toothbrush so you don’t get re-infected!

moraiwe

Yes! Thank you, I completely would have forgotten (and hated myself in about 9 days when I ran out of antibiotic)

YAY! My Persimmon Tree samples came in the mail yesterday! I went with the white sampler, but after seeing how nice it is I think I’ll end up ordering the green sampler as well. Anyway, this is the CREAMIEST coconut tea I’ve ever had! It makes me think of a coconut pudding. Delicate white tea flavor, too. Mmmm…quite nice :)

Fjellrev

Creamy coconut? Count me in!

Stephanie

I know, right? Did you get one of the $5 samplers?

Fjellrev

I actually haven’t ordered from them yet! But have been planning to order for months now.

Stephanie

The samplers are a steal! 5 teas, free German rock sugar sample, free shipping only $5 :)

Fjellrev

I think I need to buy quite a bit more for free shipping, residing in Canada, but regardless, the samplers sound like a great deal. I was planning on buying tons of samples anyway. :)

TeaLady441

If you only bit the samplers, it’s free shopping for us too! Mine should be.here any time now!

Fjellrev

SWEET. I’ll definitely get on that once I move to my new place then. :D

Thanks go to The Persimmon Tree Tea for this free tin! Dry, this tea smells like a fresh coconut, and the leaves themselves are BEAUTIFUL- I love the mix of flowers and tea leaves. Steeping, you don’t smell much at first, and then I was quickly reminded of coconut rum- I’m humming beachy songs as I type :) Also, this is my first ever white tea, just so you know.
My first sip is quite lovely- the coconut is strong, but you can also taste the tea, and it’s got this great creamy taste too. I’m drinking it neat(no additives), which I have to admit is not my usual MO, but it’s really quite nice. A very fruity blend, that’s for sure. And I agree with the characteristics listed for this tea- it’s refreshing and mild, which is a nice change from some of the teas I’ve been sampling lately. I’m definitely going to keep this one in rotation a while!

I ordered a sample of this recently and since I’m on a cream tea kick right now decided to try it out. The suggested instructions for this were to steep 2-4m in 180degree water, I steeped the first half of my sample for 3m and the second half of my sample for 4m. Neither left me impressed with this tea.

The white tea base came though strongly, followed by a hint of cream, however I could only barely taste the coconut. I was really hoping for more coconut flavor out of this tea so it was a bit of a let down.
