“The first time I came across this tea it was in my aunt’s tea cupboard – she had the whole dried stalks of the plant rather than the coarsely ground pieces that are in this tin. I seem to remember...” Read full tasting note
Mountain Tea comes from the aboveground parts of the Sideritis syriaca plant, which is abundant in the Mediterranean. Mountain Tea has been well known to humanity for centuries for its medicinal properties, in fact this herbal tea has been used since the time of Ancient Greece. Mountain Tea is also commonly referred to as “Shepherd’s Tea” because Shepherds often brewed and drank it while tending to their flocks high in the hills of the Mediterranean.
Recent scientific studies now prove what ancients have long believed, that the herb does have medicinal properties. It is high in antioxidants, flavanoids, saponins and essential oils. It is believed to strengthen the immune system, aid digestion, suppress the common cold and flu, help maintain respiratory health and prevent allergies to name a few of its great benefits.
