Makaibari Estate, established in 1859, is one of the oldest family-owned tea gardens in Darjeeling. Makaibari Estate is located just south of the Giddapahar Estate in the Kurseong South Valley, at approximately 4,500 feet elevation. Thanks to the passion and drive of the man who is the heart and soul of the garden – Rajah Banerjee, the great-grandson of founder G.C. Banerjee – the Makaibari Estate is a pioneer in innovative management. Mr. Banerjee lives on the garden, and provides for 610 tea workers and their families. As early as 1971, Mr. Banerjee made the decision to switch to a ‘permaculture’ based system, and since 1991 production has been 100% organic and biodynamic and at the top of their game.

This tea is highly sought after by Darjeeling tea enthusiasts for its complex floral nose and flavor and its straightforward goodness.
