“As other Japanese black teas, this one also need low temperatures to avoid overbrewing it. Nevertheless, it is still a bitter tea with lots of pungency. The aroma reminds me of hibiscus, almond...” Read full tasting note

Description

It is a pleasure to watch a young boy who learns the tea craft from his father and grandfather gradually turns into an experienced tea master, who constantly surprises us with his invention and unorthodox approach to tea production. Jiro Katahira, whom we met for the first time in 2007, this year, in addition to his exclusive hand-picked kabusas, also received black teas from cultivars, which are completely unusual for the production of black teas. We have chosen two pieces for our offer, because the mainstays in our offer, its still great Koucha Koushun, sold out soon this year. It will be replaced by black tea from the Shizu 7132 cultivar and a second tea from the Tsuyuhikari variety, which is its distant descendant (Tsuyuhikari is a hybrid of Shizu 7132 and Asatsuyu). Our Shizu is beautifully sweet, smooth, with a pleasant taste with delicious tones of flower honey, raisins, dried fruit and lychee. The tea is very drinkable, smooth, without signs of tightness and is a very beautiful example of Japanese black teas intended for daily drinking.

Harvest time: Nibancha (early June) 2021

Area: Mr Katahira’s farm in Nunosawa village, Shizuoka prefecture

Cultivar: Shizu 7132
