“[I DID NOT FOLLOW THE BREWING INSTRUCTIONS] I’m making this at work, looking for fancy teas that can be used as everyday teas. I’m slowly working my way through various tea shops, online and local,...” Read full tasting note
Song Red is our creation, using different cultivars to create a balanced, aromatic and sweet tea with notes of honeydew, maple syrup, and orange.
The tea comes from a beautiful, organic garden located near Songxi Township, Fujian Province. The natural biome of this garden is particularly diverse, with rows of tea plants interspersed with other trees and bushes. On particularly warm or sunny days, the natural contours of the garden and trees provide shade. But the garden’s location in northern Fujian also blankets the tea plants in mist and fog in the late afternoons.
The garden also boasts a diverse range of tea cultivars, five of which was used to craft this tea. The base tea is a “cai cha” – a small leaf cultivar that makes the tea sweet. The other four are traditionally oolong cultivars: jin mudan (gold peony), huang guanyin (yellow goddess of mercy), jin guanyin (gold goddess of mercy), and meizhan. All four oolong cultivars contribute to the tea’s fruit and floral notes. All teas were picked in mid-April 2017.
