From Rishi Tea

This stimulating Matcha blend elevates the senses with a special combination of ingredients designed to activate the central nervous system. The rich L-theanine amino acid contents from Japanese Matcha and Sencha promote concentration, mental clarity, and focus. Premium rosemary provides a nervine tonic charge and stimulates activity in the limbic system of the brain, which is linked to memory formation and emotional response. Ginger and yuzu citrus peel provide zesty, warming accents and integrate an amazingly fragrant and complex range of essential oils.

Ingredients
Organic ginger root, organic green tea, organic quince, organic rosemary, organic yuzu peel, organic black pepper, essential grapefruit, ginger, coriander, and essential makrut lime oil

A sample I added to reach the free shipping threshold when ordering teaware.

Honestly, I expected this to be horrible after seeing the other reviews. And don’t get me wrong, it’s not good. But I don’t find it to be that bad either… Like, I’m not spitting it out or anything ha ha.

The ginger definitely overpowers everything else. It’s essentially a dried ginger tisane with hints of yuzu, rosemary, and black pepper. I don’t think I would have guessed that there’s matcha if I hadn’t already known, though it’s very obvious by the green powder-dusted dry leaf.

I’m going to try the rest cold-brewed to see how it fares. Happy that it’s only a small sample, heh heh… XD

Tiffany :)

Hmm, I love every single one of those ingredients and have never seen them combined before (ginger, yuzu, rosemary, black pepper). Sorry Cameron this might have convinced me to place an order to try this :)

Cameron B.

Ha ha, more power to you if you want to try it after reading this! I would say if you really like ginger, you might enjoy it?

Martin Bednář

Honestly second bag I got from derk wasn’t that bad to be rated 18 but still, wrong and bad. Maybe bagged is different to loose leaf?

What?!

Thank you derk for this tea, but sorry, it’s awful. But nice tea bag wrapping to my collection. That’s only positive I think.

I took the bag out and I coughed. Coughed several times of the foul smell of ginger and citrusy (it should be) but it rather reminds me paint. Wall paint. Then some coriander and rosemary stuff, but somehow weird as well.

Flavour. Well it is paint again. Citruses? Nope. Matcha? Nope. Herbals, ginger? Nope. Iti s weird. Completely off. Maybe something like lemongrass, but rather grass. No notes of green tea!

What was this? Would I try to drink another teas from Rishi, or even worse… would I try to use second tea bag I received?

On the other news from Central Europe: Mother have her colleague tested positive. They won’t test others since they don’t have symptoms. She works in social care though. 4500 positive yesterday.

On positive side, I got accpeted my bachelor thesis topic: Analysis of material handling machinery in selected company. That’s great!

Ugh! Paint flavored tea! : p
COVID case numbers are going up in my state, too. Hope your Mom stays well.

Leafhopper

I hope your mother is okay. We’re definitely in the second wave of COVID in Ontario as well and there’s a huge testing backlog.

Congratulations on getting your thesis topic accepted!

ashmanra

I will say a prayer for your mom!

Congratulations on your thesis topic! I am sorry your tea was weird.

Martin Bednář

Well, not all teas are good. This was bad in particular!
I wish that mom will be okay as well (thank you Ashmanra for prayer!)

Thank you as well Leafhopper and ashmanra for congratulations about that thesis topic. I can’t wait to be honest :) Hopefully everything goes smoothly.

mrmopar

Congrats on the Bachelor. I will add your mom to the prayer list as well.

White Antlers

Martin-sorry for being remiss! Sometimes I race through the tea reviews and clearly miss things. HOORAY on the thesis! You’re well on your way and as I said before, your University time is going to fly by.

Martin Bednář

Thanks mrmopar. White Antlers don’t worry, it is completely normal to miss things. I hope it will be a good topic!

Martin Bednář

8618 tested positive in Friday! It is out of our hands I suppose.

derk

This is now on clearance at the store. Gross stuff. Shame, I generally enjoy Rishi’s blends.

Martin Bednář

derk: No surprise, but I was surprised seeing only super positive reviews on their website. Maybe it is actually a false marketing? I wouldn’t be surprised.

My taste for citrus seems different than most people here. I adore grapefruit, either a straight pink or a yellow, no sugar please. Ruby reds are too sweet for me. Following grapefruit, I have a deep love for yuzu and its incredible taste and fragrance. Any Japanese dish with a yuzu sauce is an automatic selection. Yuzu hot sauce from Trader Joe’s is all I need to top some steamed dumplings. Meyer lemons, highly floral sweet limes and sumo tangerines round out the top five of my citrus love-list.

This sachet tea from Rishi has all kinds of ingredients I enjoy, like well, grapefruit, yuzu, lime, green tea and matcha, ginger, quince, rosemary, black pepper and coriander. Literally every ingredient in this blend I adore the taste of on its own. And I get the feeling that if the damn ginger didn’t overpower everything, it would be sublime.

I tried brewing these sachets with varying steep times and could never get past the earthy, spicy! ginger. The tastes underneath would change, yes, sometimes one of the citrus fruits would be highlighted, or the black pepper, but I could never get this tea to perform reliably. The ginger spice actually upset my stomach in the morning. It did work okay as an after lunch brew. Overall — kind of a let down.

The last sachet smells and tastes like cleaner. Good riddance!
