“I had this at work a couple of days ago, so the memory is a bit vague. Chikondi means love in Chichewa – a Bantu language spoken in Malawi. These beads hold their shape quite well. They hadn’t...” Read full tasting note

Stunning in look and taste, this marvel of a tea from Malawi, stretches the limits of its white tea category. Withered leaves are carefully hand-rolled into little cocoons. Upon repeated infusions (!), the tea leaf unfurls like a butterfly´s wings for a sublime sunshine-yellow cup.
This rare tea comes to us from one of the original tea estates in Malawi, founded in early 1920’s. The production for these elaborate beads first begins in the field, through extremely careful harvesting. Young tea leaves are then placed gently onto a plate, so as to keep them flat and unwrinkled. When withered and smelling like honey-sweet white tea, the leaves are gently hand-rolled into little olive-hued cocoons. After several infusions, the cocoon opens, tea leaf wings unfurling like a fragrant butterfly. The cup is sunshine yellow, with a buttery sweetness, enchanting toasty and floral notes, and smooth, savory flavor.
