Day 12 of my Steepster homemade advent calendar from Kelmishka. This has a nice citrusy zing. I assume that’s the ginger, since I can’t taste it otherwise. It also has a licorice sweetness for which YMMV. There’s a nice little kick at the end of the sip, which lingers afterwards along with the licorice. There’s apparently rose in here but that doesn’t come through at all. Mostly I’m left wondering why the licorice is here – I would have preferred a turmeric/ginger blend without it. Presumably they added it for some sweetness to balance the spice, but licorice is such a love/hate flavor that it seems like an odd choice.

I feel a cold coming… Not full-blown sick yet, but definitely dealing with post-nasal drip and general feeling of being run-down. I expected this, honestly. It’s getting colder out, and I need to face the reality that windows need to be shut, heat needs to be turned on, socks need to be worn at all times, and jackets and pullovers need to be worn outdoors. Doesn’t help that my sleep has also been horrendous for weeks. I’m hoping this tea will help me fight off the impending blahs, if not nip them in the bud altogether.
Ginger is one of my favorite flavors ever, and ginger-turmeric teas help with congestion, joint pain, and inflammation. YES PLEASE.
I like the brothy mouthfeel and just general warming, autumnal effect that this blend of spices and roots has.

Ginger is my go-to for my bad IBS symptoms, it really calms my GI down! When I feel a cold coming on, I love a 50/50 blend of hibi and ginger (I know, I know, everyone else isn’t a fan of hibi, but I like it!) as the hibi is full of Vitamin C and the ginger is soothing on the throat.

The trick with the lozenges, as far as my experience goes, is that they work best when you start pumping them at the first hint of a thought of a tickle…almost before you realize that you think you might be under the weather! A preemptive strike, if you will.

One last drink to review for today.

It’s turmeric tea, so no surprise, it’s earthy, spicy and bright. Added to this blend are:
1) ginger, which provides its own less significant warming and spicy note
2) licorice, which gives the liquor a moderately sweet finish
3) rose, which adds a slight airy and floral taste, keeping the rest of the tea from going too medicinal.

I do notice an active, stimulating feeling on my tongue and a warmth radiating from my chest.

The four ingredients are blended in good proportions. This turmeric tea, compared to the other two I’ve had from Numi, seems to be the most medicinal tasting, which makes sense considering the majority of the ingredients are roots. All together, it’s a decent and warming nighttime cup.

My favorite of the Numi tumeric collection. Had great fun when I was in a Hostel in India and gave this to the hosts; they were simply SHOCKED to know that someone had made a ‘tumeric tea sachet’ and insisted on brewing at least 6 cups and having all of their friends try it. It made for a very interesting time!

The tea itself:
Color: It is a somewhat unattractive shade of yellow. Definitely hard to get past
Taste: The licorice & ginger make for a wonderful and unexpected sweetness. I know many are into turmeric for the health benefits and I feel that the addition of these other roots just makes for a perfectly delicious tea.
