In the Nepalese culture, these full tea leaves unfurl like the claws of the mythic dragon when the tea is steeped. The cup of tea is golden in color, but the flavor is innocently mild and mellow with a sweet finish.

Tea of the morning here. This is a darker style oolong and the flavor is very much like that of a second flush darjeeling. I’m getting a lot of fruitiness in addition to some “woody” type flavors. There’s a slight astringency in the finish which I am not totally loving but would be good with a bit of sweetener. It’s ok but not anything I would feel the need to keep around on a permanent basis. Used the filtered brita water and my Adagio kettle which was very enjoyable :)

Finished off as a Western mug – a really good one, too! The whole time I was drinking it I couldn’t help but think how many of the flavours I was perceiving just reminded me of a really nice, maybe Chinese, black tea though. Very full bodied and round/smooth cup with a lot of sweetness alongside prominent notes of malt, honey, roasted/grilled nuts (the most distinctly “oolong” note in the mug), and red fruits!!
Haveteawilltravel threw this in with the other stuff I bought from their stash. Used all 3g of this. The rolled leaves are varying shades of brown and have a sweet but somewhat roasted aroma. I fill the 100 ml gaiwan about halfway up with water for a quick rinse, and then refill it the same amount for the first steep.
The leaves expand pretty quickly. They are brown, mostly whole and have a very roasted smell. The liquor is a nice amber color. This is a fairly oxidized oolong, but it has a nice mellowness that I can enjoy.
We open up some castella-style dorayaki to eat as we drink. The taste of the tea reveals some faint sweet and bitter notes as we drink. All-in-all, it doesn’t blow us away, but we’re glad we got to give it a try!
