From Murchie's Tea & Coffee

A sweet and refreshing caffeine free tisane featuring Honeybush, rooibos, licorice root and star anise.

Originally blended: 2014

The tingling, sparkling licorice flavours in this enticing herbal tisane come from a blend of licorice root, fennel and anise seeds, and star anise.

Those who aren’t fans of licorice shouldn’t be afraid to try this tea as it is refreshing with a similar sensation to mint (without being minty) and not a heavy black licorice flavour. The licorice flavours are lightened and balanced by the honey scent and flavour of Honeybush.

The longer you steep this tea, the more flavour will come out of the spices, and it won’t get bitter like black or green tea would. If you’re a fan of strong spice flavours, try simmering on the stove for 10 minutes rather than using a typical pour-over steep.

Ingredients: Rooibos, honeybush, licorice root, anise seed, fennel seed, star anise, elder flowers.

#mugtober

Today’s prompt was “yellow” and I decided to use that as an excuse to show off one of my newer mugs with a gorgeous hand painted bee design on it. Very detailed, a little creepy in a fun way, and with such vibrant colour selections.

I decided to stick with that “sub theme” and pick out a honey flavoured tea to go with it. I could have chosen another Murchie blend, Honeybee, but I haven’t had this one a whole lot since purchasing it so I thought it was a good push to drink a tea I may not have otherwise. If we’re being really honest, this is so much more a licorice tea than a honey one. I often struggle with licorice root and there is a lot of that in this tea, but I do LOVE black licorice and this tea also tastes heavily of that as well. It’s almost licorice root to the extreme where it loops around and becomes enjoyable again for me. Weird how that happens.

I’m coming off an awful cold though and I can still feel a little rasp in my throat, so there was the added bonus of this tea also feeling really nice as I drank it with that thick, coating licorice root sensation. It’s the same key ingredient in blends like DT’s Throat Rescue or the infamous “Throat Coat” from Traditional Medicinals. So good cuppa all around in this situation.
