This vibrantly green Matcha hails from Uji, Japan, and is a wonderful example of the art Matcha tea. The aroma of the stone ground leaves is very sweet, a blend of sweetgrass, fresh hay, and nuttiness. There is also a faint floral and fruity quality to the aroma as well, which adds a layer of depth to the sweetness. Once the tea is whisked into a beautiful foam, the aroma takes on more of a savory (umami) vegetation flair and has a distinct finish of chestnut.
If you want a Matcha that has absolutely no bitterness and is very smooth, than this would be a good pick. It has a mild sweetness with notes of fresh hay and a rich nuttiness. There is also a strong presence of fresh vegetation and a touch of spinach giving the Matcha a slightly savory tone.
If you are not a fan of traditionally prepared Matcha, then have no fear, because Kennin also is wonderful as a latte. When mixed with milk and sweetener, this Matcha becomes extremely rich yet not overpowering. The taste is nutty and just a touch of hay and sweetgrass, it is vegetal and sweet.
