Picked this up while grocery shopping from an end cap that just had tons of different summery RTDs on it – mostly coconut water beverages. I thought the combination was really good sounding, but my first sips totally through me off because this was STRONG with a very boozy and bordering on rubbing alcohol type of note to the coconut. Turns out, it was actually an alcoholic drink and I didn’t realize it because it was merched alongside normal ass coconut water.

Still didn’t love it because the coconut and the alcohol were pretty fake-y and chemical tasting versus refreshing, and I thought that for a colada drink there should have been more pineapple. However, the perspective of knowing it was alcohol did shift my opinion higher than when I just thought it was maybe kind of rancid and fermented.

Made me laugh, but also — it should not be this easy to accidentally consume booze!

When I moved to Quebec from Saskatchewan that was one of the weirdest things for me to get used to – drinks like beer, cider, and coolers can be purchased not just from grocery stores (sometimes merched alongside non-alcoholic products, like this case) but also from regular, run of the mill convenience stores. In Saskatchewan, ALL forms of alcohol can only be purchased from dedicated liquor stores. Up until last year they were all government run, but this year the province transitioned to the private sector.

Pennsylvania has a state-run liquor system too. I was so confused and annoyed by it when I lived in Philly for a while. I once walked halfway across the city looking for a liquor store just to buy some beer (this was before they loosened restrictions on beer and wine sales).
