Known to be low in theine, ‘kukicha’ green tea is perfect for sharing, bringing all generations together with its enveloping and comforting liquor.
Paired with tasty morsels of Japanese yuzu, it carries with it the dashing spring scent of this invigorating citrus fruit’s flowers, emblematic of the land of the rising sun. It is the sweet and poetic symbol of eternal renewal, joyful and luminous.
Dried leaves: An alliance of fine leaves and their delicate twigs offers a cheerful mosaic of green. Real yuzu peel punctuates this spring landscape, illuminating it with a solar hue.

Mariage Frères Advent 2021 – Day 16
Today’s base is a twig tea: Kukicha. Can’t say this tea type has ever provided much excitement in my life; twigs are bland (positive framing tells me to use the word “mild”). It’s a vaguely sweet, nutty, and creamy base that plays well with the floral but citric yuzu. It’s a simple, minimalistic concept but a smart one. There’s also a perfumey flavour which I associate with MF teas; I quite like it but wonder if it’s a natural component of the tea or contamination. Nice rich touch, either way, but also a bit much post food-poisoning (I think I’m over it and then this happens lol).
I’m enjoying this far more than I did my long ago MF tin of Yuzu Temple. Not enough to buy but enough to wish I had more. Much more. This tea surprised me!
Mom rates this tea 10/10 and asks where I can buy it. This was then quickly followed up with a “don’t buy it until March” and some tangent about budgets. OK, then (adding it to the list for Mom).

Advent Day 16
Another tea that isn’t in the Steepster database! There seem to be a lot in this advent. This is labeled as a white tea, but it looks like green and kujicha. I don’t know. The sip is very light and a little bland, but I went with way lighter steeping parameters then suggested. The finish is where it gets a little interesting. I notice an almost honey taste. Like the scent of honey that fades into a very light grassy, but mostly hay flavor and then even that fades away. By a little interesting I mean it’s no longer just a bland mouthful of warm pale yellow water, not that it’s something remarkable or impressive. It’s really not to my tastes.
