“Well, it was worth a shot. It’s a fine tea, but it just can’t compete in the world of Mandala oolongs. It’s just a little bland and undistinguished. Between that and the inconclusive research on...” Read full tasting note
“Broke out a sample this morning. This GABA was a good choice as I was in need of calm. The liqueur is a light sunny yellow and it has strong floral & grassy notes. The finish is sweet....” Read full tasting note
“GABA Oolong is like Milk Oolong’s older hipster brother. It has that same grassy sort of creaminess to it but it is more assertive with the bitter finish. Not unpleasant at all but a little too...” Read full tasting note

Description

Life begins for this oolong as an Anxi, Fujian spring-picked organic Tie Guan Yin variety. What makes it special is a processing step that exposes the tea to an oxygen-free, nitrogen-rich environment. Originally designed as a food preservation method, this process has the happy effect of boosting the naturally occurring Gamma-AminoButyric Acid content to over 350mg per 100g of tea. GABA is a neurotransmitter responsible for inhibiting overactive firing of neurons in the brain. It is the body’s anti-anxiety mechanism supplemented in the natural form through a drink that is healthy for numerous other reasons, as well.

And you’ll enjoy the flavor. The lightly oxidized leaves give only hints of floral aroma while really delivering on sweet, toasted grain. Some of the more distinctive oolongs have a brilliant caramel or orchid flavor that makes them perfect for a certain mood. This tea strikes us as a great all-occasions beverage because the flavor is such a smooth, integrated whole. Could there be a more pleasant and delicious way to experiment with GABA supplementation for a calm mind?
