From M&K's Tea Company

Gunpowder Green Tea

CLASSIC, CHINESE GREEN TEA

To craft the unique appearance of gunpowder, the tea leaves are first allowed to wither, then are steamed and rolled into the familiar pellet shape. With fine care, the pellets are then rolled tightly and dried. Gunpowder (also known as zhu tea), makes for a great introductory tea, especially for lovers of more roasted teas or ones with a smokey element.

INGREDIENTS:

Chinese Gunpowder Green Tea (3505AAA Grade).

Tea 5/11 of the tea I got from M&K’s etsy shop. I got a green tea sampler pack (10 teas) + they threw in one sample which was also a green tea :). Each of the samples I got were enough for 2-3 “servings” of tea.

I steeped half of the sample I got in 3min in 12 oz of 175 degree F water. The dry leaves of the tea are like small black pebbles, but after infusing they unravel. Very pretty. I was concerned at first I over leafed the tea but after tasting it it was fine. I got a mildly smoky and roasted flavour that almost made the tea seem like a black tea. I have a Houjicha roasted tea I got from a tea swap about 5 months ago, and although It is nice, I think the smokey flavour is a bit much for me (although my husband loves it). However, with this gunpowder tea I like the mild smokey/roasted flavour: it’s enough for interest and taste but not too much that it upsets my stomach. Very nice.

This may be a repurchase for me in the future!

I really liked it :)

try the “upton tea import” version next

Kristal

Perhaps I shall :) Although I have made a promise to myself that I will not buy anymore teas until September since work will be picking up then and until my cupboard drops to 30-something teas (I have 47 right now and I’m getting another 20 tea bag fruit sampler from Celestial seasonings in the mail, so really I have 52 kinds!). That shouldn’t be too much of a challenge to wait until then and to use up teas because I have a lot of small amounts of green teas to use up + I’m still making pitchers of iced tea.

I will look at Upton teas website though and see if anything catches my eye :)
